The tools you will need to install the new galley face
are a screwdriver, pliers and a drill. To remove the old galley face you just need to take out
a few screws which hold it in place. Then remove the center door which you will use with the new
unit. Included is a template for marking the catch hole in the center door planel. Since our
galley face was slightly curved, we chose to keep the original latch for the center door on the new
unit instead of using the supplied Southco push button lock.
Next you simply move the old Perspex panels to the new facia. This can easily be done by yourself
or by your lovely assistant (provided you trust your lovely assistant with a drill on the boat!)
Position the panels on the new galley face, drill holes in the right position, and use the nuts and
bolts you took off the old unit to fix the panels in place.
To keep things from dropping down into the bilge, we have a plywood board which rests on the
water ballast tank and provides a nice platform for storing all our kitchen supplies. Because
the board is a snug fit, the outside edge is held in place simply by friction with the hull. A
trap door allows access through to the bilge. Hold the new panel in place and drill eight holes to
rebolt panel using the six nuts and bolts from the old unit and the two new nuts and bolts provided
with the kit.
The new improved galley face retains the look of the original face while greatly improving the
functionality by opening wide to allow easy access to the storage space behind it.
