Re: De-powering to 10-25 hp ob motor?

When my Merc 50 h.p. died back in 2013, I was faced with a similar quandary. What happened to your 50 to kill it? I brought my 20 year old Merc back to life by replacing the CDI (ignition) unit last year and have been trying to decide in my mind what constitutes a 'replace' event. I have eyed the M...

Re: Engine and general advice Mac19

Wow, that's an unfortunate first day. Can't speak for the Tohatsu but I think most outboards have the ability to drop the lower unit with a few bolts. I've done it myself a few times on the Mercury big foot 50 (which has a larger lower unit than other 50HP's). If its a 1995 motor, maybe you can find...

Re: to paint or wax topside...when is it "OK" to start thinking paint

@PAWSEIDON Thanks for the $7500 price quote, not sure where I got the $4-6K in my mind but maybe someone gave me a bait and switch price at some point, who knows cause a lot of years have gone by. @Newell Happy Birthday - I was racing on a J40 at DIYC a couple years ago that got t-boned during the s...

Re: Swing keel nightmare

Your post brings back some btdt memories....wow, found the post from over 16 years ago when it happened to me at Phillipe Park in Safety Harbor..sort of a manmade sandy beach area near the park with a bunch of small concrete rocks (because real rocks are not so common in Tampa Bay)...it was a nightm...

Re: to paint or wax topside...when is it "OK" to start thinking paint

Hi DemItri, So If you are referring to the Forward and Sliding Hatch on Pawseidon, I reinstalled the forward Hatch last weekend. Before I can put the Sliding Hatch back, I need to finish making new rails. I'm making them out of Mahogany. Teak was just too expensive. Removing all the bolts is provin...

Re: Planing

:macm: I easily got 15 to 17 mph with my 07 Suzuki 50. No ballast, 2 adults. As others have said likely the prop size, pitch. I upgraded in 08 to the 70 but i believe the target rpms are the same, 5000 to 5200. The 50 never would get up on plane with ballast. Good luck Haha..reminds me of one of th...

Looking forward to hearing how your diy paintjob turns out on the hatch. My anchor locker hatch has cracked now so maybe if yours turns out good, that will give me some encouragement to do mine too..lol

Florida Lower Keys - Dec 2016

Cool new forum Russ....Does pdf work here, let me try to post a cruise log...its 23 pages but most of that is pics. https://i.postimg.cc/4Kn3JsPX/Cruise-Log-Lower-Florida-Keys-Dec5-14-2016.png Fyi, the OWB marina I used to launch from in Dec 2016 was completely taken out (2 story building turned int...

Re: to paint or wax topside...when is it "OK" to start thinking paint

Good thread, and to use a bad pun, I'm in the same boat! Owned my 26X for 17 years (longest of any boat so far) and at first I used to try waxing, polishing, etc. quite a bit but then it faded out over the years although I think I did wax the topsides 2-3 years ago for a trip to the Keys where I did...

Re: Help! Looking at a 26x, soon, on the hard

I purchased my boat with the Honda 50HP and have maintained it myself from the start. It still starts on the first crank even after sitting for months and runs strong. The lower end unit however has some seal issues which I'm addressing with regular oil changes but will need to be replaced in the n...

Re: use of "plug and play" solar for temporary use

So, you attach the alligator clips to the red A/B/Both battery switch and just dial in the battery you want to charge? Do you ever do it in the "both" position? Not quite, I just attach the alligator clips to one of the batteries (easiest on the posts) and if I want to charge the other one that is ...

Re: use of "plug and play" solar for temporary use

I have the big red A/B battery switch so I can use that to charge either or both batteries. I have one group24 starting battery and a group29 house battery. The controller is one of these cheapos from China which has USB ports and a display that shows if the panels are providing power to the battery...

Re: use of "plug and play" solar for temporary use

I have a 100w flex panel that I use on multiple boats, a little controller and some alligator clips to the battery. One of these days I'll get an electric fridge cooler most likely..maybe I'll need 200w for that. Here is a pic of it strapped to my Bimini on M26X for last year's BEER cruise ...keeps ...

Re: Fuel/Water seperator

I have mine mounted inside the front of the starboard fuel locker...along with a valve and two input lines. I can still fit 3 X 6 gallon fuel tanks as well as a spare anchor with this configuration. Its been working great for over 10 years with no carb fouling at all compared to the old days before ...
