CDI FF2 Maintenance, parts list, Torlon bearing

My genny on the CDI Furler was a bit sticky last season so I knocked it apart this weekend I had upgraded plastic bearing to the Torlon one about 5 years ago. When I took it apart, I found the bottom cast part had corroded away and the attachment screws had broken out of the bearing housing. Tom/CDI...

Re: Getting the forestay tight w/o getting into the furler??

I think you are asking a rigging question, more than a rig tuning question, right worm?? Its pretty difficult to pull down the forestay and pin it when the tension is right and high enough. The Mast raising system works well, or you can do it the cheap way - use a sailtie to make a foot loop tied to...

Re: Picture Contest

Quick reminder of the regs on Naval vessels- the magical numbers are 500 yards (caution) and 100 yards (stay out) You must operate at minimum speed if closer than 500 yards to any naval vessel in US waters. Do not approach closer than 100 yards. If you are going to be pushed close to the 100 yard li...

Re: Haole (white man) rot or over exposure to the sun

I think the hard part is going to be making the rudder head, not the blade itself. My pintle is more broken than I thought, so I might need some dimensions on that puppy.

(Im all set with the template - dont need it, to answer your question)

Re: CB line wear point at base of CP - X boat question

Opie - I think you are right on this one. My :macx: board took 7 years before I replaced it (and it hadnt broken yet) - three years in a slip, and the rest trailered. Im sure the wear point is the famous FG hole it feeds up at the top of the board. Maybe a piece of heat shrink sheath could provide s...

Re: Set the Sails!

congrats Alan - remember that sailing in 5 kts of wind is the HARDEST thing to do and the toughest on a beginner...ideally you want 10-15 kts to power up the boat and learn about sail trim.

Re: Bottom painting while on the trailer

Without trying to mother hen you guys to death... the pictures shown above show patently BAD practice using concrete blocks. As Russ points out, the blocks need to be properly loaded. In a wall, the blocks are aligned so that the compressive force is evenly spread out on the entire edge of the block...
