Re: Repost from wrong area
Who ever "advised" that 25 is not good on the ocean is full of grog. For 10 years we sailed from San Pedro to Catalina and dropped anchor for a week at a time. Sanata Barbara to Santa Cruz Island. Raced 120 miles from Newport Ca. to Ensenada MX. Navigated San Juans in Canada. If trimmed pr...

Re: Motor Size
Have 7.5 HP Honda long shaft. Plenty of power even in high winds. Three thing to consider on a sailboat, WEIGHT, WEIGHT AND WEIGHT!!

Re: Mystery Modded MacGregor 25
The keel should retract into the trunk almost flush. 5HP is marginal. Have 7.5 Honda 4 stroke. Plenty of power. Anchors>>> 10 pound danforth is a good choice. 25 to thirty feet of 3/8 galvanized chain and 300 ft of line. Has worked for me for 50+ years. Keep us posted. Fair winds and smooth seas.

Re: Mystery Modded MacGregor 25
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. Can't understand why some want to reinvent the wheel. Roger MacGregor Mac 25 was inducted into the sailboat hall of fame. I would move the traveler to mid boom just at the cabin hatch opening and go back to single rudder. Trailer looks to be modified, okay. Everythin...

Re: Sailboat owner wannabe here.
MacGregor still has best rep for hand laying fiberglass. Some other used chopper guns which sprayed on. Have had no problem with glass on Freedom which is 40 + years old.

Re: Sailboat owner wannabe here.
Have owned three Venture/Macs over 50+ years. 21, 222 and 25. Never had any problems except slip imprisoned fix keel owners making fun of me as I trailered from Baja to British Columbia. Note: Catalina 22, Frank Butler design, is still the largest production sailboat ever built. OK for two, cramped ...

Re: Macgregor 25 power options
I keep fuel tank on cockpit floor. Putting tank in lazerette is a NO NO!!! Fumes + spark = disaster. A fire at sea can ruin your day. Saw boat burned to the waterline. I went to restaurant supply house and got heavy duty bus tub to fit 3 gal. tank. Keeps tank off cockpit floor and contains any spills.
