Re: COVID-19 just got real
Not a vaccine but a viable treatment. This could be a game changer if it pans out https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-020-0156-0 https://drive.google.com/file/d/186Bel9RqfsmEx55FDum4xY_IlWSHnGbj/view There are a few other treatments being tested as well like Avigan an anti viral medication from J...

Re: shore power installation, galvanic isolator
I you really want one Fisheries has one for $230 https://www.fisheriessupply.com/newmar-galvanic-isolator (not sure this one is fail safe) or for a bit more https://www.fisheriessupply.com/newmar-galvanic-isolator . Re: Down wind in strong conditions
Bob, Next time it’s blowing 20-30knts put a double reef in the main dockside and if you can hoist it at the dock and motor sail out if your marina/dock allows for it (ie straight run into the wind out to your sailing grounds. Leave the headsail furled and just play with the main. You’ll be surprised...

Re: Down wind in strong conditions
Board up or mostly up. As you surf you start to plane and just like motoring fast with the board down it can suddenly create lift on one side or the other and throw you into a broach. We hit 13knts one time surfing under sail white knuckles but fun

Re: Dreaming About Haida Gwaii
The cruise around Vancouver Island has gotten my enthusiasm up for a trip out to Haida Gwaii. The 75 to 80 mile open ocean crossing of Hecate Strait is daunting, however with the right weather, and the boat/engine in proper condition, it's certainly doable. Ferrying the boat out there is another op...

Re: Dreaming About Haida Gwaii
There are 3 marinas in Prince Rupert, namely the Prince Rupert Rowing and Yacht Club, Cow Bay Marina, and Rushbrooke Floats Small Craft Harbour. The only launch ramp in Prince Rupert is at Rushbrooke. I plan to contact them in the near future regarding long term parking for truck and trailer. I was...

Re: Dreaming About Haida Gwaii
I am planning a trip next summer to Alaska and also launching in the Prince Rupert area. I would be interested in hearing about where you end up launching and where you were able to park your truck and trailer for several weeks. If you're considering SE Alaska I would suggest looking at continuing ...

Ouch! That’s an outrageous price! No wonder you’re going this route. Good luck and be safe.

Re: 26X trailer swap
It might be worth the phone call to a local crane company. Could be a couple hundred bucks and have it sitting safely on the new trailer in less than an hour. Worth looking into IMO.

Re: Mac 36 cat
Saw a highly modified one for sale a few years ago in Hawaii. I want to say the owner had extended it a couple of feet, pure race boat. Looked brand new.

Re: Dyneema Rigging
If I could afford either of those boats I don't think I'd really care lol might as well be gold plated rigging :D There are quite a few cruisers using dyneema as standing rigging though. Easy to splice, easy to store. UV's the big killer with it. Not a bad idea to keep a length of it as an emergency...
