Big wind on the north channel.

Spent two weeks out on the North Channel of Lake Huron this summer in our M26S. Had a wonderful time but most days there was little to no wind. I think we would say our favourite anchorage would have been at Kirkpatrick Island where we stayed for two nights by choice. We had a view of the big water ...

Re: Mac 26S swing keel won't retract, what's wrong!

I have a 95 26S and I removed the centreboard last year to rebuild it and you need to remove the boat from the trailer to access it. The problem you are having could be caused by a number of things causing an accumulation of friction in the mechanism. The pivot hole in the centreboard could be warn ...

Re: Stay Adjuster Covers

Your stay covers look awesome. If you permit me to pass on something I heard and know nothing about myself, I watch a good deal of boat inspection videos and a few inspectors did not have a lot of good things to say about stay covers that do not allow the metal to breath. But some of these inspector...

Re: Can you tell that I am so sick of winter?

I am in northern Ontario and I feel your pain. I have a 4 foot snowbank blocking in my boat. Saturday it was -26 At night but yesterday it was 9 and sunny with no negative daytime highs in the long range forcast. Let the melting begin.

Re: centerboard repair advice

Get it down to bare metal wash the metal with their marine clean, treat it, with the prep and ready, then paint with POR15. And nothing sticks to this stuff unless you scratch it with some sand paper. I have restored cars and always use this stuff. It will impress you. And you will never need to do ...

Re: centerboard repair advice

I have done a major rebuild on the centreboard for my 26S and although it is all fibreglass and not weighted like yours it was a big job as well. I had the same fear as you when I started and was happy just making something that worked and was going to find a new centreboard later. But as I got buil...

Re: Trailor Sailor my ass... and some Boating Art

I find that trailering and set up, launch, haul out and securing for transport again is more of a hassle than it is worth to day sail. Not bad if you are going to be out for 3 or more days but still a hassle. We tried keeping out Macgregor 26S at a marina in Spanish, Ontario a small town on the Nort...

Re: App's App's and more App's

My iPad does not like talking to non Apple things. It will not blue tooth with my Samsung phone so I can check the weather on the app on the iPad. It will not talk to my Samsung ear phones. But it works really well with any apple product. So when you go get some GPS device to work with your iPad mak...

Re: Slop in the steering

Drilling stainless can be a bit chalanging. I would suggest a drill press or a lathe. Or you will be sharpening your bit a lot. They seem to recommend a bit angle of 118 degrees. Good luck and have fun.

Re: Slop in the steering

Hi john I have a 26S and I have the same problem and I am working on a solution. I just picked up a 3/4 inch stainless steel bolt that has 2 inch of thread. I plan to drill a hole through the 3/4 bolt so the stock bolt fits with minimal play and grind the nut and bolt head to about 1/8 to 3/16 and p...

Welcome to the sailing world. Interesting to hear you come from the canoe and kayak world. I also have an extensive canoe and kayak history and it if funny that half my old kayak buds have turned to sailing as the years pass. I have the Mac26s, and friends have had a 25 and one friend just picked up...

Re: first time boat owner

Here is a video I watched to give me some ideas removing my 26S to fix the centreboard. I did not use stands but just big wooden blocks built up on both sides and in the middle. 2x6 across screwed to the blocks and than more 2x6 on top hinged in the middle with wood blocks holding 2x6 to the angle o...

I have used navionics in my phone. Worked really well When there is phone signal. Very accurate. Not cheep. I think it was about $50. But that includes marine charts of north america.
