Re: mold-mildew

Oh mold and mildew my eternal enemy... I live in Gainesville and the terrible humidity combined with trees every where means a 24/7 battle with mildew. The only thing that made a difference was painting the inside with anti-mold paint. Putting a tarp over the boat was a big mistake, it just turns it...

Re: 1990 macgregor 26sx keel problem

I know nothing about your model but there is a manual freely available that shows how the centerboard attaches.

Re: Dent in hull on trailer

I wouldnt worry about it too much. The Mac hulls are thin and tend to oil can like that if the bunk is pushing on the wrong area. You can pop it out by gently applying pressure from the inside with a bottle jack and warming the hull.

Re: Safely Removing a Swing Keel

Very nicely documented. Your keel looks better than most I see undergoing this process. What is the year of this boat?

Re: Venture 21 pivot Bolt

Looks to me like someone did a shoddy repair at some point. I dont know what purpose a piece of wire would serve glued into that mass.

Looks good. Seems like you have done a ton of work on this. Whats the story with the centerboard rebuild?

Transom Repair

I have been putting this off as long as possible but the time had come. Tired of water leaking in from my damaged transom. From past inspection I knew the entire transom wood where the motor mounted was soft. Here is what I found when I opened it up. This is what you can look forward too if your tra...

Re: Adding weight to a V21 swing keel?

I dont think adding a bit of weight would hurt. I completely replaced the keel in my V222 with a steel keel from a different boat. The one I found is around 100 pounds heavier than the original specs.

Re: Venture 22 Hobie 16 main and backstay flicker

Interesting. Be sure to let us know how it works. It almost looks like you could use it at the original first reef and clear the backstay? I have an oversized main with larger roach and drop it each time I tack to clear the backstay. I dont think it would clear even at the reef point. The Hobie sai...

I used 3/16 stainless and nicopress fittings. Had to order the fittings online as all the local suppliers had was aluminum.

Venture 22 Hobie 16 main and backstay flicker

Thought I would share this someone here may appreciate it. The original main I received with my boat is is sad shape. New sails are planned for later in the year but I would like to continue sailing through the winter. Searching locally didnt turn up anything promising. I have modified a hobie main ...

Re: Venture 22 sails again

Dont worry I only operate it at partial throttle. These motors have a lockout that keeps you from opening the throttle more than a 1/4 turn unless you are in gear. Would have preferred to use a smaller four stroke but this project is already way over budget.

Re: Venture 22 sails again

btw: I think you have a Venture V222... You could be right but Im just going by the paperwork received with the boat. The hull numbers match the numbers on the original main that I have (its blown out) and it has V22 printed on that sail. Im thinking MAC was a little loose with their model designat...

Re: Venture 22 sails again

Absolutely beautiful! How long did it take to finish this? Can you post more pictures? How about more interior shots? What was the hardest part of recovering a boat like this? Would you do it again? I very impressed because for my skill level doesn't even come close to this you have done a great jo...
