1982 Mac 25 backstay length needed

Has anyone ordered a back stay or know the length needed? The search I did on line states that I need to send in the old one so the replacement will be made correctly. My existing stay was broken when I bought the boat.
thanks

Re: source for light dome on mast

On my mast are 2 lights. At the top is an auto type #1157 bulb socket. I assumed that a clear dome fit over it for 360 deg. visibility but as the dome is missing I don't know what the requirements are or the purpose of it. I think it is wired to the same switch as the bow and stern lights. The other...

source for light dome on mast

Does anybody know where I can buy a dome for the light at the top of my mast? It was broken when I purchased the boat. It is an 80's MAC 25. MACR1261Mxxx
thanks,

Re: MAC 25 refurbish

Hi,
I think my boat is the same vintage as yours but not yet in running condition. Do you have any pictures? I will need to make some of the repairs that you made already.

Re: Mac 25 repairs needed after filling with rain water

My boat and trailer were built in 1982. The boat was loaded with lots of sails, oars, lines, etc. The last owner added lots of upgrades and it seems that he raced it too. It has so many lines, blocks and cleats that I don't even know what they are all used for. Only the back stay seems to need repla...

Mac 25 repairs needed after filling with rain water

Hi, I recently acquired a boat that sat in storage for almost 20 years. It had about 9 inches of water in it which I thought was due to the hatch having been removed by vandals. I drained it out and fixed the hatch only to find that while in storage it filled up again!! I don't know the boats design...

feedback on Honda outboard motors

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations (either good or bad) about Honda motors? I am looking at a 2004 8 hp XL shaft without electric start. I will use it on my Mac 25. It looks really clean and recently had the carbs cleaned.

M25 trailer tires and wheel size

I just purchased a 1982 M25 and single axle trailer. It will need a lot of clean up and I also want to do a thorough visual inspection of both the boat and trailer. The unit wasn't used since approx. 1997 so I know that the tires shouldn't be trusted. The tread is perfect but there is some dry rot i...

Re: Mac 25 Restoration

Your boat does look great. Do you or anyone else have a suggestion for cleaning 20 years of filth from my Mac 25 hull? The top sides are covered with what resembles dried algae. I am afraid I will remove any shine left in the gel coat by using the wrong chemicals or too much pressure from a pressure...

Re: New Mac25 owner, new to sailing.. introducing myself.

I too just purchased a 1982 Mac 25. It didn't come with a motor and I am wondering what length shaft works best. When the transom is lowered to permit a 20" shaft motor plane to clear the bottom of the hull, the top of the transom is about 13" below the stern. Is that too low to reach and ...

Re: recommended outboard for MACR 25'

I only plan to take it out on Lake Michigan so at least the tide won't be an issue. The motor mount is adjustable so that should help if I am in the shallows.

recommended outboard for MACR 25'

Hello, I just got this 25' boat and trailer. I will need a motor to use it or to see what else needs to be repaired. Will a long shaft (20") work with this motor mount or do I need the XL 25" shaft? I read in the manual that 9.9 hp was the max for this boat. Is that really the max? I found...

Re: new purchase Macgregor 26'

This is the id numbers stamped into the stern on the starboard side. Should there be other numbers somewhere on the boat? MACR1 26 1 M8 21 I believe this boat has a swing centerboard instead of a daggerboard. I can see it under the boat and resting on the trailer frame. I would like to find the floo...

new purchase Macgregor 26'

Hello, I am new to the forum and fairly new to sailing also. I just purchased a real project boat, for cheap. This was an abandoned vehicle. I have a certificate of purchase from the state but not the title. I hope to get both the title and the trailer tags without issues. That may not be the case a...
