Re: Security on board, especially when overnighting
In 17 years of cruising I've never had a problem. The only boarders we've ever had were raccoons. I do take what are I feel are just common sense precautions. We don't leave things like binoculars, radios or phones in the cockpit un-attended. I have a canvas helm cover that at least puts my chartplo...

Re: 97 26X for $3000 - To good to pass up???
I agree, any X that is not damaged in some way, has been reasonably cared for and has a working engine will sell for $12k to $15k with no problem. Add extra equipment and you will even get more. That's the bottom of the functional boat market for these boats, you just don't get any further depreciat...

Re: 26X purchasing advice
My boat is a '96, As long as the core is sealed and dry the material really makes no difference. In many ways I think the plywood is better than the foam core, it is heavier, but is easier to mount stuff to. In the 10 seasons I have had my boat I have never had an issue with the center vent verses t...

Re: 2003 MacGregor with 70HP Tohatsu
My boat currently has the Tohatsu TLDI 90 on it. The 90 and the 70 are identical motors except for the air intake and the computer. I've not skied behind the boat or towed toys since we put the 90 on it but I'm sure it will be great when we do. Here are some pictures of us out playing with water toy...

Re: My Tohatsu 50
I don't have my Tohatsu 50 any more, but for the 8 years I did I had the exact opposite experience. It ran on anything I fed it, new gas, old gas, it didn't care. At the end of the summer I'd turn it off and just park it. No running it out of gas, or draining the carbs. No winterizing at all. The ne...

Re: New Mac 26 Roller Furling for Main
Just to clarify, that is not a MacGregor Yachts Corporation product. "MacGregor Sales at the Factory" is a independent dealership run by Mike Inmon. He has a desk at the factory but is not an employee of MacGregor Yachts. The factory web site is here http://www.macgregor26.com . As you wil...

Re: X Arches
1. how did you mounted the arch to your X My arch is bolted to the inside of the transom on each side. I put in access plates so I could get to the nuts. I used a plate of scrap aluminum on the inside as a backing plate. 2. what kind of arch did you get Mine is aluminum, I feel it is a much better ...

Re: SOS SaniPottie Retail Help!!!
We've been inspected twice by the coasties and they have never had an issue with the porta pottie. They have never even opened the head door to look. They ask, I say porta pottie, and they move on down their checklist. If it was plumbed to a deck fitting it is now a permanent head with a holding tan...

Re: Step for marina boarding?
That is my boat you posted the picture of. It is a 'Fender Step' from Sailor Solutions, it's easily installable on either side, also adjustable in height, you can even use it as a fender. Besides docks we use it to board the dinghy when out at anchor or a buoy. http://www.sailorssolutions.com/index....

Re: SOS SaniPottie Retail Help!!!
The Dometic I have, the 975 MSD, is even easier to change from plumbed in to portable than the old Sealand design you posted a picture of. http://images.buzzillions.com/images_products/01/09/1310171_raw.jpg http://www.sealandtechnology.com/productpages.asp?pid=94 To plumb it in you simply unscrew th...

Re: downward price pressure
They have had that one boat in stock for two years now and have yet to sell it. I was aboard it last summer at the ShilShole boat show. They have had zero takers going up against BWY and MacGregor. You are right about the price however. Many of the recent M's BWY has been selling have been loaded to...

Re: SOS SaniPottie Retail Help!!!
If you have the porta pottie tank loose off the boat you should never use a suction pump out hose on it, it is not made for this. You can only use these when it is plumbed in as a permanent MSD head and it has the vent line also hooked up. When loose you need to dump it using the pour spout. Most pu...

Re: Flying a Flag from the Backstay
Flying the US ensign from a spreader halyard is frowned upon by traditionalists. It does hide the flag from one side when sailing. If done, the preferred side is the starboard side. Since you have a backstay I would stick with it so the flag is more visible. The spreader halyard on the starboard sid...
