Re: iPad for remote navigation screen
If you can live without NOAA vector charts, iNavX is a standalone app for the iPhone and iPad. But as said above, I'm not sure I'd want to have my iPad 3G in the open cockpit of any boat. [edit] Regarding an external antenna for down below, we spent many a night at anchor in the 26X with the interna...

Re: iPhone Apps
All I can say is that a 64GB WiFi + 3G iPad rocked on our highway trip to Louisville this weekend!

Re: Boston Whaler Website
Hi guys. Stephen, these are the Type 1, offshore vests Barb and I wore in the Whaler when Lake Erie was kicking up: http://www.luffshack.com/Whaler/PFDS.JPG With mirrors, whistles and strobes tethered on. We still have them, but they're too bulky to wear around sailboat rigging, so we now wear auto-...

Re: porta potti
The blue capped stuff contains formaldehyde . Not earth-friendly and you don't want to dump it into a septic tank system. It's banned in some campgrounds. You also don't need more than an ounce or so of deodorizer in a porta-potty bottom. You do need a cup or so of water with it before use to preven...

Re: Centerboard depth on M
For shallow water, especially if there's any upwind sailing involved, you should consider a boat with a long, low-aspect ratio, shoal draft keel. Take a look at the Com-Pac 19, 23, and 25. Our Catalina Capri 18 has a pretty shallow draft, but the Com-Pac 25 is only a couple of inches deeper, if you'...

Re: The boat on its side in the Solent
The boat in the pictures above is obviously full of air, not water. This is what a 26X that has been holed and taken on water looks like (Hurricane Katrina): http://www.luffshack.com/MacGregor/cOpalCapsize.jpg A LOT less boat (and no motor) above the water (ballast tank probably full and thus neutra...

Re: Siting On Shore Power connector
The circuit tester above will function just fine for checking 120VAC 15 or 20 amp outlets on docks. The neutrals and grounds on the dock outlets are all bonded at the on-shore breaker panel, just as in a residence. That tester offers no guarantee the 30 amp outlet is wired correctly. Where you will ...

Re: Siting On Shore Power connector
The ABYC required disconnect IS a double-pole circuit breaker, actually a ganged (interconnected) pair of breakers, one in the hot and one in the common line (AC lines aren't labeled + and -). It is required to be of the type that cannot be held "on" in a fault condition. It is required to...

Got this in the Trailer Sailor email: Greetings, Hope you are enjoying the North Channel this year in spite of the somewhat nippy temperatures. Jan and I hope to join you next year for the NC Cruise. A friend of mine here in Dayton, Ohio, decided to put his 1988 MacGregor 26D on the market. Marlowe ...

Re: Prop Pitch on 14" prop's???
The stock prop on the 60 BigFoot EFI (2.33:1) on our 15 foot Whaler was roughly 14" in diameter and 15" pitch. When loaded up with all the stuff Momma wanted aboard, and the bimini up, it would only turn about 5400 rpm max. I bought a 14" diameter, 13" pitch aluminum Merc prop fo...

Re: No fuel to my Big Foot Merc 60 hp HELP?
Happened to my Big Foot 60HP on the Whaler after letting it sit a year while playing with the 26X. It was high pressure fuel pump in the bottom of the fuel/vapor separator. $250. One month out of warranty.
