Re: Florida Sailing Grounds???
Just watch the weather and you will do fine. I have done it several times. If the winds and waves are blowing into the harbor enterance it can get really tricky. Marco Island Western (Gulf) enterance is changing all the time and can get quite shallow. Not really a problem. Suggestions Go to Port Cha...

Re: Florida Sailing Grounds???
I have stayed at Pennikamp State Park Marina and morring field. IF you have a dinghy it would be best to stay at the morring field. There is several KOA's that will do you better. Not as many tourist at the dock and more secure. Please note that anywhere in the keys you may have high enough winds to...

Re: Florida Sailing Grounds???
It really depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend. Any bigger body of water is good. Lots to do. Take you pick. You could spend years and not do them all. My suggestion is to get a few and see what the weather is like and go to that one. Check out the cruising guides for ...

Re: Raymarine WheelPilot - Wire Boot Needed
First is to clean the connections inside. Let dry and the put electrical tape, then liquid electrical tape a couple of times. Reapply electrical tape and then some more liquid electrical tape. This should keep it dry inside and easy to remove. Also, Get a pedistal cover. Less than $ 200 and will sav...

Re: Anchoring: too much scope?
Anchoring can best described as a religon. Nothing in stone. First - the scope ratios is from how deep the anchor is set and to where the anchor is tied off on the boat + waves and wind. examples - if your water dept is 5 feet 7:1 is 35 feet of schope, Wrong. The bow is about 4 feet above waterline....

Re: Naples, FL as a trailer sailor destination?
I have been to Famingo and do not recomend it for storing the trailer and tow as they allow night fishing at the dock and is basicly an RV park with verry little security. It can have a lot of people around it. Recomended spots, call ahead Everglades City, Rod and Gun Club. A must stop regardless. P...

Re: Green Macgregor/solar
It really depends on what you want to do with your boat. If you have shore power every night to top off your batteries then go for it. If you intend to go a thousand or more miles on a vacation without shore power then you may have cloudy days or in the shadow not charging your batteries. Also if yo...

Re: Naples, FL as a trailer sailor destination?
I suggest you go farther North or South to put in. Depends on what you want to do. For the Everglades (lots of birds, Islands and fish) try from Marco Island to Everglades City. For Fort Myers North to Tampa bay. (People, food, beachs and a few Islands) A lot of places to put in. It depends on what ...

Re: Water tank inside 26M sliding galley?
To fill my water tanks, I put a water fill inlet on the step of the engin well.
This is a lot of water for weekend sailing. It might be best to work out a system inside the sliding galley.

I used them to make my stern boarding ladder with an extra step. Works great and just bolted on.

Re: Water tank inside 26M sliding galley?
That space is to good to put water tanks in. Put 2 - 30 gal's under the stern bed. This will use the space much better as this space is hard to get in and out of.

Re: Towing a Dinghy: How much drag?
Never tow a soft bottom dinghy. It will fly. Foldaboat does not tow well. Most people do not take their dinghy motor off when towing for day hops. Get a big 50 foot tow rope. The marine stores carry polly tow ropes for water toys. Get the biggest you can find. I use 5/8. The polly will float and wil...

Re: Florida to Bimini or to Grand Bahamas ?
Go to Bimini and stay at one of the marina's. Arrive about 10am. Then ??? There are a lot of morrings that can be had cheep. Highly recommended. You will need 2 anchors 20 to 30 pounds. 30 feet of 5/16 chain on each. One or both mounted on the stern. Careful about anchoring in shallow water. Not muc...

At the campground you may not be able to drain the sink on the ground.
