top speed Honda 50Hp

My surveyor recommended I figure whether I'm getting good speed out of my motor.

With 4 people and a full ballast, we topped out at 8.8 knots. Is that good? He claimed with fewer people and an empty ballast she should do about 14.

Dowsar stern rail seats

Does anyone else have these on their Mac?

My surveyor pointed out a few structural problems with them. They are secured in places where there is no reinforced hull and I'm seeing some spider cracking around them.

signing over ownership

I'm fast approaching the phase where we agree on a price and sign over ownership. What steps doI need to go through? I know I have a change of ownership form for the trailer, just like any vehicle. Do I then submit that? That costs, right? Is there a similar sign-over for the boat itself? Do we writ...

Re: steering wander at low motor speeds

Slowly, as if putting pressure, turn the wheel until you see the bow start to move. Of course, the real trick is to get it not moving in the first place... :P (I'd be already way off course, so I'd have to do a hard correction just to avoid beaching her on shore; if I did small corrections I'd have...

steering wander at low motor speeds

I just came back from the sea trial of the MacX I'm considering. I was surprised at how much it wandered under power at low speeds (under 5 knots). It was effectively impossible to keep it pointed; it would just wander off point the moment I got it on, so I was slaloming the whole way. Keel down 25%...

interior layout: old M versus *new* M versus X

I read somewhere that, after an overhaul of the interior from the X, a lot of epople didn't like the interior of the M, so after some years they switched back.

Since I really like the layout of the X, does that mean I could have that layout and still sail an M? Where can I find more about this?

Re: Opinions about the Mac 19' Powersailer

They are a great boat I have had mine about 5yrs now & now own a 26m also so the :mac19: is for sale Cool. How would you compare the roominess between the 19 and 26? Obviously lopping off 7 feet makes a diff. Is it as wide and as deep? Is the 19 still roomy enough to camp for several nights? Is the...

$$ buying across border

I've found a Mac in Rhode Island for $9K. What kind of taxes and fees do I need to concern myself with if I buy a boat in the US and bring it to Canada?

Opinions about the Mac 19' Powersailer

I've just stumbled upon a Mac 19. http://www.dougpile.com/mac19/2.html I've narrowed my sailboat preferences down to a Mac 26 PowerBoat because I want the room to overnight but the versatility to haul it out whenever I want. The 26' is perfect but more than my budget. I know it's shorter but it seem...

Vehicles by tow capacity

I am in the market for a Mac so I'm going to want replace my vehicle in order to tow it. I would rather not change my vehicle-preference dramatically. I currently drive a mid/full-size performance/luxury sedan (a Chrysler 300M - the older model). I'd rather not go to a truck, minivan or SUV if I can...

Canadian Mac Enthusiasts?

We're somewhat new to sailing but have been clubbing and taking lessons for several years. My wife & I have done our research and a Mac PowerSailor is the boat for us. I like the versatility of being able to trailer or power to a new location anytime I want. We're looking to purchase in a year or tw...
