26 D with Wheel Steering

I helped a fellow step his mast at Lake Mead in April of 2004. He was from AZ and had come to try out his new wheel steering he had just installed. I invited him to race with us and it looked like he started the race then went on his own or had problems. Don't remember the name of the boat or owner.

Mast Cutting

I'm voting for dropping the mast vs shortening the mast. The procedure is much less tipsy without a furler. Do away with the furler, you can always sell it later. Run your jib halyard to the cabin, tighten up your baby stays, now when you go out to the Ocean you don't even need your forestay pinned....

Lowisa/Racing

BB, Now you have me looking up Alcova, WY. Never heard of it before. I hadn't considered WY as much of sailing venue before. I hauled my X to Jackson Lake 6 or 7 years ago and had a blah type of trip. I can take windshifts and gusts, but when it comes rolling down off the Tetons from above it was ve...

Lowisa Racing

BB, Yes, I put the main on the same side as the genny but pulled in. My intention for the main is to direct wind into the Asm Spin. However, I have only done this in racing against other boats for fun. I have never listed my boat as having a spinnaker so race non-spinnaker. I'm usually short-handed ...

Racing the M

Way to go, racing is great. Several comments. When running dead downwind did you try poleing out the genny or the spinnaker and going wing on wing with all 3 sails? I usually pull up the CB on my X. You may think the 240 rating was too low at least I do. I'm still of the opinion that 359 the VYC est...

The VYC of SD will be arriving at Cat Harbor sometime in the middle of Friday the 15th for a raft up. Perhaps we could see you in 2 Harbors for drinks in the pm?

Merit 25

The several Merit 25s I have seen look similiar to the X with a white hull and black stripe. However that is where the similarity ends. Fast racers under sail, not much headroom in the cabin and no power planning capabilities.

CB distance

The distance of 19" pops up but don't know from where. One fellow posted measurements of how much line dropped the board 1/4, 1/2 and so on. I lost that post, from the Sailnet board. That is if the uphaul is 1:1 which mine isn't. I always sail with mine fully down unless the water is shallow. Since ...

Sportpilot + Problems

Has anyone had their unit develop intermittant problems? Last season worked great this year it worked twice on a 5 day trip. When set it won't make any correction for a time allowing the boat to turn, then it will spin the wheel all the way to the stop usually a port turn.

Fuel Problem

I shouldn't even say this but I never winterize my Nissen 50. If this boat has been sitting around for several years then it might be a problem at getting the fuel into the carbs.

Lines led Aft

I ran Jib and Main halyards through mast base plate mounted blocks through Shafer oranizer so that each line is on each side of the baby stay bracket both go through a double clutch about 1' in front of the winch. Yes the clutch is overkill but I purchased everything during the Winter on eBay includ...

Gooseneck

I'm responding to myself here. I received the new gooseneck complete with SS rivets and 4 SS screws. My question is are the later model goosenecks both X and M screwed onto the end of the boom? The early model AL round billet type was through bolted with 1, 1/4" bolt. I like the new arrangement. It ...
