X & M Performance

Last year I was in a VYC of San Diego race with a 04 M. There were 3 Xs and 1M in 2 races. At one point going to weather the M and I were very close. I was pointing as high as my boat points and I thought the M could have out-pointed me but since I had the inside track he could not pull away from me...

Boom on Mast Storage

I also have ordered the new gooseneck from my dealer. I have converted to rolling the main on the boom over the vang. Combining mods I think the newer type gooseneck can be converted to a swivel and still allow the rolled main-on-boom to go parallel to the mast. Since I don't have it in hand, just g...

New 28

So is the consensus that there is no new French boat in the offing? I was getting very interested.

Perhaps this thrread could be sent to Roger M. for review. There is a market I believe.

Ballast Valve(s) configuration

I think only the 95 model Xs had the small fill valve on the port side. My boat built in April 96 had the small starboard valve. I removed it and put in the large valve. I capped the hump valve and drilled a front vent that travels up to the anchor locker and tees into the anchor locker vent. After ...

Topping Lift Instll

I think a better alternative to having 2 snaps or wrapping is to have the snap on a loop tied with a slip knot. Topping lift can be adjusted without removing the hook.

Secondary Forestay

Hi, If you raise the original forestay up the mast, the rake of the mast is more vertical. Have you already changed the angle of your mast? I wonder why Doyle had their offshore shop build all those 150 Gennys? The X or any other boat is only overpowered when the existing wind reaches the point the ...

Racing

DavidB, I wrote a long reply but my browser dropped the connection and I lost it before I could post it. I have raced my X every year. I have raced on the Great Salt Lake, Lake Mead and San Diego Bay. Have more fun competing in one design and without meaning to brag my X has only been beaten by 1 ot...

Backing Trailer

I back my trailer up a steep driveway each round trip. I drilled and use a pin to disengage the surge brake, yes it may be a pain in the butt. When I lost a wheel and wasn't able to get the right parts on a 2300 mile trip, I used the pin to disengage the unit and completed the trip without brakes an...

Longer Boom, bigger mainsail

Am I noticing something different here? ............ Mac-X .... Mac-M Luff...... 24'09"... 28'02" Leech... 25'11"... 27'05" Foot..... 10'05"... 10'05" The M's luff is 3' 5" longer but the leech is only 2' 8" this doesn't appear as more roach but much less roach than the X main. Someone earlier said ...

15" tires

I moved to 15" bias ply 3 years ago. Longer shackles (self-made) to compensate. Lost a wheel bearing last year which took off the starboard fender in the process. Made my own brackets on a new, wider fender looks and works good. I got the tires and rims for $153. 65 lbs of air is a stable ride and n...

Sailing speed record and racing (FM)

Frank,

Look again at the graphic it is antimated, what a hoot.

FM, good luck racing. Perhaps you should take off the dodger and the radar tower if you really want to be competive against other 26Xs. You may have your main a little tight for such light winds.

Winching onto Trailer

I also think I had to reverse the anti reversing pawl so that it would work correctly. Not to clear on this part. I know another owner machined a part to do the same thing so a change has to be made but I can't remember it being much work.

Winching onto Trailer

I used longer bolts and bolted through the same holes using washers to strengten the winch. As I remember the winch is mounted backward from it's original position. The hole for the line to pass through the support is drilled just ahead of the rubber V-block. I have faired the hole with a file but i...

Winching onto Trailer

Over the years I have heard about this problem innumerable times. The original winch is rated heavy enough to winch the boat to the V stop without any additional refloating, winching while coming up the ramp (sort of hard to do singelhanded). The winch is in the wrong position. J. Kerwin came up wit...

Winching onto Trailer

Does anybody read any of this? The Mac Bump is not some sort of Roger Blessing for having bought a Mac. Read my earlier post. Yes it requires a little work but look at the time, wear and tear you will save on both the boat and vehicle loading your boat. Remount the original winch. That's the solutio...
