Mast

You stood on the mast... was it filled with foam? Did it ever seems like the mast wanted to sink? The ballast tank was empty right? Based on the M mast I filled my X mast with styrofoam and expanding foam last weekend so it would not turn "turtle" if I ever got knocked down without ballast. It sound...

Knockdown righting

Has anyone been knocked down and then righted the boat.. I was thinking about what technique works best with a boat this large.. I used to sail small 19 & 15's and would just stand on the centerboard to right it. The theory should work the same... but it is a bigger boat... has anyone actually done ...

Mast raising mod

Check out my modification on the old mast raising kit... It makes it easy to raise the mast while holding the furler drum. Click on the WWW at the bottom to check out the mods at my website. I have had two other people do this mod and have found it to be easier than the origional.

Mast light

I had to replace the whole lamp assembly recently.. West Marine has the exact item:

LITE-NAV MASTHEAD #2
ITEM# 174391 $19.99

There are two long screws that hold the plastic and lens assemble to the mount. It does have a replaceable bulb.

Couple of questions

The guy/company sent me an email a little while after you ordered yours.. I had sent him a email back in December of last year... how has your communication with them been? I read you use quick pins (detent pins) on your head stay... I would caution against using them... I had one in and my mast cam...

auto release cleats

I bought those same cleats from West Marine.. they were made for small boats with small lines... you might be able to return them at WM.

Uncleated

I usually leave them uncleated when down, (because I beach alot) but I have the bolt tightened just enough to provide some friction yet still loose enough to pull up.

Photo Doctoring

1.) Yes that is a Photoshopped picture... it is hard to take a picture of my self at 24mph... doesn't Roger look great! 2.) I also hated taking boom below deck and banging everthing within it's radius. 3.) I bolted (not screwed) every hole. Had to make an extension for my ratchet.. and lining...

Bridge Ducking

A word about bridge ducking... I try to avoid it. Not that the mast is heavy or the boom is a problem... it's the wires... I'm always afraid the back stay will get caught in the prop... and I'll have a jumble of wires on the deck which is unnerving... so I try to stay away from bridges. (unless they...

Came that way

I purchase this boat used in August 03'... it came that way... I didn't do it... honest... I did replace the nut with the thumb nut for ease of removal. Anyone else have a 99' X to compare? Anyone know what the hook is there for?

Mast Raising with Boom & Sail

I wondered if anyone else has done this. I have the standard mainsail with sail slugs and a sail cover for a 99' 26X. I usually raise and lower the mast everytime I go out and I just leave the boom/sail/cover attached. I do disconnect the boom vang and main sheet and stuff them into the cover, and I...
