Mac25 Trailer Bunk Length

Post by Sisu » Thu Sep 28, 2017 11:21 am

Time to replace the bunks on our trailer. I'm pretty sure they're original and they appear to be 9 foot 2x8s (or maybe 2x6, I can't remember). Our boat has very bad oilcanning in the aft of the hull behind where the bunks end, to the point I'm looking to build in some stringers back there this winter to reinforce. How long should we lengthen the bunks? Should we go with entire 12 footers? 10 feet?

Just to close the loop on this, we went with 12 foot 2x10s, which seemed to work well. We used shims to give the bunks an extra 1.5" above the brackets, which doesn't really impact launch and retrieval and gives the hull more clearance over the fenders and better access to the keel.
