Multi-day Sailing on Lake Tahoe

Post by Brian W »

Hello! Does anyone have insight, opinions, experience with multi-day sailing itineraries/options on Lake Tahoe? Through my armchair research, I am not finding many options for anchorages, marinas, etc that would enable a two or three day trip on the lake. Thanks for sharing any tips or info you might have!

Have you tried Active Captain? I get 20 marinas and yacht clubs, though I haven't checked them all out for suitability.

Are you talking about chartering or are you looking for a slip for your X? I have a weeks reservation for a slip at Tahoe Key's Marina for the week of July 10th, but I booked this like 4 months ago. I can share my research if you have specific questions.

I would be taking my own :macx:. I don't have any hopes of pulling anything off this season; however, one day I would like to make a trip over there (I live in Boise) . . . always looking for fun three to four day trips on lakes and have never sailed Tahoe or any other lakes outside of Idaho.

Tomfoolery, thanks for sharing Active Captain, I had never heard to it and it appears to be very useful!

Pawseidon, I will take a look at Tahoe Key's Marina. Have you stayed on the lake before? Are there fun areas to visit/explore by boat?

Hi Brian,

No, I have been to Lake Tahoe before, both the North side and south side, but this will be my first trip with our :macx: .

I'll update the post with a trip report after I get back.

I haven't done it but I have friends who rent a buoy at Camp Rich. In the evenings the tie up to the dock and sleep at the dock.
Emerald bay has some boat camping mornings that you can rent thru the park service.
I'm interested as well as I want to spend a few nights out on LT

Maybe we can start planning a Mac outing for LAKE TAHOE, for summer of 2018?

I'd be interested.

I was going to Squaw to ski last Sunday and saw a M heading to Tahoe

We're planning a week next year in July. We're renting a condo on the north shore near Kings Beach. and if I recall, they come with a mooring. I'll post more details as we firm them up.

We have a condo at Tahoe Keys with a dock and a 26m. We have sailed to emerald bay and moored. No costs or reservations needed. For 2018 our co-owner will bring his speedboat so we will keep our Mac in Pittsburgh marina (east Bay Area, end of delta, so a river that goes out towards SF bay). To trail your boat to Tahoe you will need to buy a Tahoe boat permit, have the quoaga snail
Inspection and then show proof of insurance.
There are some nice dockable restaurants around the lake too. Happy to help plan.

Tahoe is awesome. I've spent significant time there.

Tahoe is about avoiding marinas :) Anchor out in the emerald bay for a day. Sail north, anchor, sail east, anchor. Talk to pine trees.

At the end sail south, and gamble your money away.

It's not terribly big :) but very deep. It would be a great trip.
