Factory Standard Furler

Post by KiwiMac »

Hi Peeps

I recently bought a 2008 Mac26D and shipped it to NZ. I have been trying to set up the boat but there are definite differences to the way it has been rigged compared to the owner's manual. The boat arrived with the rigging all attached so I assumed I just needed to raise the mast, but is is not

One the of the bigger issues is that what looks like the factory standard furling unit is not tight and there appears to be space at the mast head on the stay.

Can anyone post a pic of what the mast end of the furling unit should look like? That is if anyone has the 'factory standard' furling unit.

Cheers

Thanks JimmyT.

Looks like mine as more of a gap at the top so will see what I can claw out of the other end to get more tension. Real pain not have a ready tensioner on the base of the forestay.

Cheers

If the mast rake isn't right, slacken the rig (use the mast-raising system or the jib halyard), unpin the forstay, slide the furler up the foil, adjust the forestay, then repin. You may be able to adjust the turnbuckle inside the furler without unpinning. Since the shrouds (or sidestays, if you like) work against the forestay, adjusting the shroud tension also adjusts the forestay tension - you can't adjust one without changing the other.

I'm a little confused? You say a "2008 D"? The D's were prior to 1990. Did you mean a "M" like what is in your personal info?

Their is also a chance that the furler was added by a previous owner.

Do you not have a turnbuckle in the drum?

Also CDI wants a toggle at the top and bottom of the forestay....
Headstay Fittings There must be a toggle at both ends of the headstay...

The toggles are inexpensive...

It looks like KiwiMac has the mac furler, not the CDI

No turnbuckle, forestry tension is set by the side stays only.

The connection at the top looks right to me
