Pics of Mac 26M without mast (motor Boat)
a friend is considering buying a Mac 26M for use in waterways.
I am looking for pictures of 26M being used as a motor (only) boat.
Without mast or any sailing gear.
How does it looks like ?
Are there any pictures of it ?
Thanks
Jose

Jose,
I too use my X as a motor boat. I couldn't be happier. I also have a motoring mast like Duane for my anchor light. Luanching and recovering is a snap as compared to rigging the mast each time. Sorry no M pic's.

Side view parked at dock.

Not an M, but here is a few shots of our X. Note the short motoring mas I added to carry the required motoring light. To meet the requirements under power you need the upper forward facing white light that is mounted on the mast. If you leave the mast at home you do not have the correct lights for a powerboat.
I made the short mast out of a couple pieces of starboard and some SS bolts. It also fills the void left by the empty step.

Duane, if I mount a white stern light on the aft end of my , like my Bayliner Capri, that's not considered legal on my Does it have to be mounted on a mast of some kind and in the former mast position amidship RobDuane Dunn, Allegro wrote:To meet the requirements under power you need the upper forward facing white light that is mounted on the mast. Re: Pics of Mac 26M without mast (motor Boat)
The issue is the lights displayed when viewed from the front (the forward 225 degrees). Under power you have to display the forward red and green with a white above them. From the stern you display a white. Showing just the forward red and green along with the stern white tells the world you are a boat under sail.

When sailing at night on a Mac you turn on the navigation light switch to get the forward red and green along with the stern white.
As soon as you start your motor, you have to add the mast light to show the forward white above the forward red and green, this tells other boats you are under power.
On mine, I take a very common alternative available when out mastless. I turn on the navigation lights and actually block the stern white. Then I turn on the all around white at the top of my motoring mast. This meets the regulations for a boats under 12 meters operating under power. The all around can be at the stern, it just has to appear above the red and green when viewed from the front.

Re: Pics of Mac 26M without mast (motor Boat)
PS: The girfriend was more than happy lounging on deck for 8-9 hours without having to climb around lines and the mast. Aren't Mac's great How many boats allow you the luxury of setting up as either a sail/power boat Let the doubters denigrate all they want Rob
