Quick Release Shroud for Forestay: Installation

Post by Man~ana »

I purchased a quick release shroud for the forestay from Kelly Hanson for my 2008 26M. It did not come with instructions.

In looking over the situation I will need to move the Upper Shroud & Forestay strap currently bolted through the mast. It appears that it needs to move up between 8" to 10". I am looking for an exact measurement that works so I don't have to drill needless holes in the mast. Any experience and recommendations for the new location and dimensions?

I will also need to have new shrouds made up to accomodate the additional length. Rather than having new and longer shrouds made, I am considering a new strap in the current location which means the forestay will be 8" to 10" above the shroud attachment. I do not believe that should create any issues but would like to confirm this? Comments are welcome.

Any other advice about installation of the Quick Realease is appreciated.

Regards,
Bill Bennett

that would make two of us with the same question.
I am also waiting for this item in the mail. For some reason I am not surprised that there is no instruction. I've had this disappointment with Kelly Hanson previously.
I've read here about either adjusting the hight of the upper hound, or shortening the forestay.
I suppose installing a new mast hound a little higher would be easier, but I also want to separate from the forestay and elevate the spinnaker block a little higher. I even ordered it already from BWY. But Just don't know if that's a good idea having three mast hounds relatively close to each other, original for the shrouds, then a little higher for the forestay, and then the next for the spinnaker block. Does any one have this set up? any pictures?

I installed the quick release with a new mast hound exactly 8" above the factory hound on my 2006 :macm: . Left the stays on the original hound. Works beautifully. You have about an inch of play on the quick release to adjust your forestay tension if you want. I like the fact that now the foot of the genoa doesn't hang up as much on the bow rails.
