Thanks:-) We are so super excited about this. I don't know what to look for first. Thanks for the link on the disc breaks, I have it bookmarked! We will take your advice on the trailer, thank you so so so much. Bryans list of things to do is fair sized this early in the game. HAHA!tkanzler wrote:Nice score. She looks really clean, too, at least from the pics. Mine was a real mess inside when I got it, but was surprisingly easy to make sparkle.
Some general observations from the pics:
Those short goal posts on the trailer will scratch your hull - sleeve them with some 1-1/2" PVC. Bring them up to the rub rail, and put a cap on each one with a couple of air holes in the side just below the cap (so it doesn't float off). Look at most folks'or
and you'll see taller goal post sleeves. Try to get schedule 80 PVC if you can (much stronger than schedule 40). PVC electrical conduit is also UV resistant, and may be easier to get in schedule 80. Those boats blow around easily, and can be tricky sometimes to get on the trailer, so taller goalposts will be very helpful. I'm going to try to sleeve the vee at the bow, also, just because I sometimes have trouble getting the bow into place without scraping it whe the current is running (Erie Canal, mostly).
Do check out the trailer carefully. They don't have the best reputation for longevity, and the axle (3500 lb) is probably underrated for the boat loaded for cruising, so be sure you service those bearings and brakes. And don't trust the tires if they're more than 6 years old or so - new ones are cheap enough, and can be had on sale for around $100 mounted on a galvanized wheel. Less if you only need tires, but at that age, the wheels may need attention. Watch the load rating, remembering that the trailer and boat is more like 4000 lb or so, loaded for action. I put new disc brakes on mine for about $400, with all new parts including the surge coupler. Lots of discussion on this if you do a search. http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Brakes/ ... 43100.html
That head with pumpout will keep your local authorities happy. I wish mine had that arrangement. I threaten folks contemplating using the PP in mine that they will have to empty it, and so far noone has used it. But it's there.![]()
Looks like you done good. Congrats.
