1974 Venture 2-24
Hi there
I am the proud owner of my first boat. The survey papers say she is 24 feet 11 inches and the hull identification is Mace10310174. How can I find more info her? I would like to know what the mast height clearance is and other specs. It would be great if I could get my hands on a copy of an old manual or advertisement. Any help is appreciated.

Much obliged bmxer. However, I still can't find anything for a Venture 2-24. I'm definately going to read up on the 25, though. Thanks.

Damn. I just typed you up an entire discourse for you but the site refreshed without warning and lost it all. Lesson learned - use a text editor on the pc for the long ones grrrrr. Maybe I can redo it later....
I have a 1973 V224, bought it a couple of years ago - so I am damn familiar with this boat. It was essentially all 40 years old neglected original.
Clearance from the waterline to mast head would be safe with 36 ft if the mast is original and nothing bolted to the top.
I have made MANY mods to this boat and we sail him lengthy and often. Longest trip so far is 12 days without touching land.
What are your sailing plans? Daysail? weekends?
What kind of shape is it in? How original?
Look at the FAQ above right about photos.
Welcome

Hi topcat
My plan is to learn how to sail her. In 2014, I intend to join in the Wednesday night races. (I use to be on the race committee boat.) Yes, she's in pretty good shape. Muscles or something up around the top of the keel, but it's too cold to go clean her now.

You would think but a V224 is quite different from a 25 from what I can tell in internet photos.

Good for you the boat is in good shape. I have a decade and thousands of $$$$ of prettying up ahead.
We learned to sail on this boat. Threw some camping gear food and water in and off we went for 3 days. What a clown act!!!! We learned alright and the admiral and I have quite a few laugh moments now.The number one thing to learn is to be constantly aware of all conditions while on a floating object.
The V224 is quite light and tender but forgiving. I sail her pretty hard and I still have the genny up sometimes when many boats are all reefed down. Maybe they're smarter but mine is FUNNER!!! What a blast this thing is! It rocks my world and I miss it when I'm not doing it.
If yours is anything like mine it has some very basic sail handling gear. I'm in process of changing all of that because I need better.
For example:
DONE: Change to Midboom sheeting gear - more robust blocks larger line.
I don't like the sheet behind me.
DONE: Add Jib Downhaul
DONE: Add Lazy Jacks
DONE: Add Boom Vang
DONE: Add Topping Lift
IN PROCESS: Add Traveler
IN PROCESS: Add Whisker pole w/rigging
DONE: All lines to cockpit but need to use better gear
NEED: Add various cleats (soon)
NEED: Add Genoa Tracks/Cars (why so damn expensive - even used???)
If you plan to race this boat you will probably add many of the above items also. Depends on what gear you have now I suppose.
We love our old boat.
Cheers

Wow
Lots of good stuff. I can only afford to dream. But first on my wish list is a roller furling for the jib as I want to sail her single handed. She doesn't have a stove, so I'm going to have to hunt for a used BBQ. I will not be a serious racer. Most of my yacht club racers have C&C's. I just want to become proficient and learn. My big thing would be anchoring her for the night, a hot BBBQ, a cold Rum n' coke, and a warm body, to watch the sunset and maybe get a glimpse of that rare green flash.
