keel lock bolt

Post by bfd378 »

Could someone tell me what size bolt they are using for their venture 25 keel lock bolt? Mine is a 1974 model, and I just cut the head off a 1/2"x3&1/2" bolt that was bent in the hole. (Not through the keel though) The owners manuals I've found call for a 3/8"x3&1/2 inch bolt. I bought both a 3/8" bolt & a half inch bolt, just in case.
I would post a photo, but I haven't figured out how.

I had problem bending my keel lock bolt evey time I ran aground. My keel wasn't locked down, just resting on it. Anyway, I went to a 1/2 inch bolt 2 years ago but haven't run aground yet. I think it's still going to bend somewhat, but I'll be able to extract it easier. I'll just straighten it instead of replacing it.
