Georgian Bay 30 000 Islands, Midland, Honey Harbour
Georgian Bay 30 000 Islands, Midland, Honey Harbour
I am planning a 10 day trip to the 30,000 Island area in Georgian bay in July. I know Penetenguishine has a good trailer sailor friendly marina and it is only 20 miles away from 30,000 islands but I was wondering if any body could recommend a marina with great launch ramp and trailer storage in the Honey Harbour area or Moon River area?

We passed through that area last summer, at the tail end of our year long Great Loop cruise. Unfortunately, we were in way to big of a hurry to do the area justice. It's a beautiful place, and deserving of a thorough explore. Good luck with your planned trip. Keep us posted here.

Get in touch with beene and Highlander. Georgian Bay is their backyard, or it was Highlander's.

Crikey! and Dreamer are in that neighborhood, too. There was some discussion about having the MMOR in Georgian Bay, but it ended up in Simcoe last year. Which was good for me, as I've never been there either. But I'd guess one or more of those guys has knowledge about the 30,000 islands area.NiceAft wrote:Get in touch with beene and Highlander. We regularely use Moon River Marina on Woods Bay and Moose-Deer Point Marina on 12 Mile Bay. Both offer good launcing and trailer storage.

Here is a link to my Trent Severn // Georgian Bay // Honey Harbor trip ...
http://s166.photobucket.com/user/beene_ ... ern%20Trip
I have sailed Georgian Bay // Lake Simcoe // Lake Ontario since since the early 90's
I used to have a 19.5 sandpiper and would trailer it to a church owned dirt ramp in Honey Harbor
Rig up
And head to Beausoleil Island https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beausoleil_Island
I think the best option is to launch from Midland and head up from there.
I believe they have trailer storage available there also.
Be careful out there
Georgian Bay is very dangerous for sailors
Cheers

Hi Beene,
I just flicked through your slideshow. Beautiful pics, brought back fond memories of our passage through those waters last summer. For anyone considering starting out somewhere on the Trent, including possibly on Lake Simcoe, a couple of thoughts come to mind. If you're interested in sailing on Georgian Bay, you'll obviously need to start out with mast down. We raised ours after reaching a marina at Port Severn, which turned out to be a mistake. We asked about bridges at the marina, and got bad info. Folks forgot about that last fixed highway bridge, with 24 foot clearance. After passing through the final lock, we had to partially lower our mast in order to clear the bridge. Clear sailing (pardon the pun) after that. Also, it's a good idea to plan on waiting a few hours for the second to last lock (Lock 42 I think) as well as the Big Chute, since boats seem to stack up there. We spent a night at a popular anchorage at the north end of Beausalile Island. We saw 6 anchored and rafted up boats in the anchorage there. We were lucky to find a spot on the dock.
