To wit, I give you this bit of the past week's news from Florida:
Tattoo Yachts wants to create about 50 jobs in St. Lucie County Keona Gardner, [email protected]
ST. LUCIE COUNTY — The county Planning and Zoning Board Thursday approved a conditional-use permit for a boat builder to convert a former citrus packing facility into a warehouse that would employ 49 people.
Tattoo Yachts LLC wants to open a boat-manufacturing company at 5350 Sun Citrus Blvd., in a 26,000-square-foot former citrus packing facility in a light-industrial area west of Treasure Coast International Airport. The company would build fiberglass boats between 22 feet and 60 feet, according to county records.
Average pay would be $17 an hour, said Jill Marasa, vice president of business retention and expansion at the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County.
The company has yet to apply for any county tax incentives for job creation, Marasa said.
Owners Paul and Laura Sharp previously operated a similar facility in Stuart but their lease expired.
“I love seeing this,” said Planning and Zoning Board member James Clasby. “It shows the county is really working toward bringing jobs to our county.”
The County Commission is scheduled to discuss the issue May 2.
