+1 on Ray's post. That is the part. It's best to replace it before it breaks or seizes completely. It is not terribly hard to replace unless you wait too long.

Promised pics, boring perhaps but was quite exhausting doing this under the equator sun:




Still need to an a battery holder, or two since I'm adding an electric trolling motor, a fuel tank... and that pesky Honda.
Since we're taking that engine off the Mac and putting it on this new thing, I guess it will be easier to replace that part while it's off the boat?

Remind me please, I recall someone saying you need a longer steering cable that you'd think.
I have the local, expensive boat shop owner coming to look at her tomorrow. Can anyone remind me of the correct cable length?
Off the top of my head I recall someone tried a 7ft cable but found a 12ft one was a lot better?

I have the 8ft upgraded rack and pinion on my 2002 but early model 26x used a rotary system that i think was 12 ft.
