I just bought my first sailboat, a 26S, I have never sailed and I want to learn for a while to see if I enjoy the experience. I don't see how I can't.
I've been doing a lot of mods to make everything more enjoyable, this board has been a wealth of information. I look forward to posting pics when I complete the projects.
I have a simple question about the water tank. I am installing an electric pump, and I am trying to figure out what to use as a water tank.
My problem was that I was thinking I would just grab a portable water container, hook it to the pump, and run it to the faucet. Then I realized that when the water exits the tank to the pump, the pressure would reduce inside the tank. Air has to get in somehow, similar to when you pour water from a bottle, a "glub" of air goes in when a "glub" of water goes out.
Does the pump allow air to get back into the water tank, or do you have to get a water tank that has a bladder so the bladder can compress while the water exits???

Well, that can be resolved in one of two ways. If you use a collapsible water tank - like the kind you'd take camping or an actual proper marine bladder - then the tank just collapses and there's no need for a vent. If, however, you use a rigid tank, you'll need a vent. I have two rigid tanks in my boat, and they are vented via a small tube that runs up near the dinette table, and I have a valve on it that I can shut when the boat is in transport or when sailing.
