Today was one heck of a weather day, and I was suppose to be there but had to change my plans in a hurry.
There were 9 tornados simultaneously in the Black Sea near Novorossiysk in Russia. Unfortunately not all of it got on photos and videos, but it's still amazing.
I thought I'd share it with you guys:

I'm just wondering here. What happens when one of those water spouts blows over one of those freighters? Is it worse than a hurricane

MUCH worse - - - a meteorologist friend of mine tells me that one, maybe two, of these over water tornadoes are capable of lifting a freighter right out of the water

God's teeth! As if freak waves aren't scary enough. Think I'll strike cruising the black sea then...

not sure I agree with the meterologist,
a measurement of the forces leads me to believe while more than enough to twist a sailing ship on end.
It would take the force of an F4 or F5 to suck enough water out from under a large steel tanker or bulk cargo ship. Most likely it would send conex's flying off the decks of a container ship
But those vessels are designed to take the multiple impacts of 40 ft. waves broadside.
300 miles an hour of wind just doesnt have the energy of one of those mountains of water.
A quick search of modern vessels hit by waterspouts shows that only sailing ship hits have resulted in wrecked vessels.

I don't think I'd want to be on a freighter hit by a tornado or two
Rick
PS Also, after the containers come off and get dumped into the sea, the ship is much lighter

Rather be on a freighter than a sailing ship in that circumstance....just sayin...

Sometimes you just need a break from it all.

No foul here. The photo was taken with my sons waterproof/shock proof Olympus Stylus Tough, while sitting it a collapsible floatie. I can send you the original to verify if you need further proof. My son is a very talented photographer and keeps coming up with fantastic shots.
