How do you carry a Bicycle on your Mac?

Post by James V »

Most of the stores are more than 1 mile away and I am getting tired of walking and was thinking about a bicycle.

How do you carry one on a Mac?

The Admiral is always saying to me a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle, are you going cycling with the fish?

This would be cool http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/50078 ... image.html?

I sleep back aft and use the V birth as storage. I purchased a 20" 3 speed folding bike on eBay a few year ago and when folded it makes a compact V shape. It fits just right in the vary front of the V birth. It has been handy when visiting various ports in Puget Sound and the San Juans. It's not stainless or fancy, and if it rusts, so what...

I'd suggest that you try and borrow one, before buying it, to see where it could be stored in your boat. Definitely nice to have when hitting the beach!

There was a recent article about folding bikes in one of the sailing or cruising mags, it featured WM's bike but mentioned a cheaper model. I suppose if your really motivated you could modify a car carrier rack to mount on the M's mast support or fancy up some sort of divot off the back railings.

bought a pair of used dahon folding bikes last week at a garage sale. weeee little wheels folds up to a med size suitcase bag. paid $100 for the pair thinking that if we dont like them i could surely get my money back out of them by selling them in my marina. they are odd to ride with their little wheels and tall steering and seat posts. feels wiggly but are in fact quite stable.

Rather than taking up valuable space on the MAC, how about storing bicycles in your tow vehicle?

Of course, my Admiral would recommend walking a mile, or two, every day. That's why she's more than a bit trimmer than I am.

Cuisto, you got a great deal on those Dahon's if they are in good condition. If they don't work out, I'm sure that you could sell them for a profit.

You, Sir, got one heck of a bargain if they are in any shape at all, and I presume they are OK because you bought them - - - - a bag to carry one in costs more than $100. If you don't like them, you will do MUCH better than get your money back in ANY marina. The cheapest new one (bottom of the line and I don't know which ones you have) go for $300 new. They are perfect for boaters.

Put a note on a bulletin board and your phone will ring off the hook.

We bot 2 Dahon single speed 20" folding bikes 4 yrs ago @ $200 each. Also bot bags. The 2 bikes fit in the trunk of our 2002 Accord and under the cockpit of our X. We prefer riding the Dahons to our 18 spd 26" street bikes, which we gave to grandkids 3 yrs ago. We boat fresh water (Lake Michigan) so salt water corrosion is not a risk. The Dahons are one of the better things we have bot "for the boat". Ron

I have a cheap folding bike with 20" wheels. I look a bit ridiculous riding it (have been asked which grandchild did I steal it from), but it beats walking.

So far I've only carried it in the tow vehicle but I think it would fit in the V birth of the 26M okay.

Update on the Dahon

I love the bikes ( I have two now, one a gift from United for occupying too many airline seats) but getting parts isn't easy....no web support at all...just " call dealer"
