I have damaged one of my rudders

Post by Bassco66 »

:macm: After a great day sailing I have managed to crack my port side rudder, pushing it a bit far and hit a sand bar. It’s repeatable but I’m thinking of getting a set of Mac 26M HDPE High Performance Rudder. Has anyone got these rudders? Are they any good. It would be great to get some info before I buy. Thanks Andrew

I have them and like them ok. I doubt they are unbreakable. That said I've wacked them pretty hard on the bottom and use them for bottom sensors all the time...
I painted mine to keep the sun off. I may make my own set some day. They need to be a few inches wider.

Just FYI, our Ozzie Mac colleague "Davilia7" has put up a great little video on YouTube at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3dzaOEMyqrQ showing his expert repair of his own 26M rudder. Even if you buy a new one, it couldn't hurt to have a spare, right? I adore his other helpful videos too...lot of handy tips in them. If, like me, you're just killing time up here in the tundra before the daffodils bloom and sailing can re-commence, you'd do well to binge watch 'em all. The pirate map one with his kids is a hoot.
