New mast crutch, comments..

Post by opie »

My mast crutch was damaged by a tree limb and I used my new one this week. Blue Water Yachts
http://www.bwyachts.com/
sent me my new one and I noticed it was about 12 inches longer than my original factory crutch.
Todd at BWY said most owners liked the mast up higher to clear the bimini when using Mac with mast down. I saw where Tomfoolery suggests to use docklines to secure taller crutch from "springyness". I don't seem to mind the extra spring from the extra length of mast.
My comment is to BE SURE that you don't tighten the rubber roller in the fork too much. Leave it loose to roll freely. You can also order a plastic insert Todd sells to aid in the roller free movement. (6503-1V0 )
