Furler problem

Trying to raise the jib up the furler and about 2 foot from the top the sail stops raising.

Took the sail off and tried it; right to the top no bother. tried it with a short piece of rope in the channel and the same thing happened stops with a definate clunk as if its hitting some form of stop.

This happened last year when my mate put up the jib but neither he nor i can remember the solution.

It sounds like an obstruction or misalignment in the furler track. It would be easiest to lower the mast to horizontal and visually inspect the furler track. Inspect the line & block as well.

When I get around to re-installing my jib or genoa to the furler track, I'll be doing so on the ground were it is easier to manage things like your glitch.

The halyard inside the furler has a small metal piece swaged to it called a ferule. This keeps the rope inside the furler track. It is possible that the ferule moved up on the line, thus hitting the block at the top of the furler sooner than it's supposed to, thus not allowing full hoist. Inspecting the furler will releave this. I'm afraid I don't have an easy solution. You may need to replace the halyard and get a new ferule swaged onto the line.
