Re: Shipping a Mac26M in a 40' international shipping container
Having actually done what you are trying to do with my :macm: - some advice: Yes you can ship it in a 40 foot "high top" box. They have to take the wheels, axel, guards, lights and guide posts off and "slide" the boat and trailer into the container. The mast cradel has to be take...

Re: compartment covers repair
What I did on my :macm: was glue some timber strips trimmed to the correct angle and hight using 5200 to the tops of the balast inlets, and glued some thin high density foam on top of that so they just meet the covers. Works a treat in providing support in the center of the covers so they won't spli...

Re: Help installing VHF antenna
I installed a 3' whip on top of my 2008 M. Ran the cable down the mast (inside). Cut through the foam in there by using some conduit with a holoe saw blabe screwed to the end ( a 2 man job but went down a treat, 10 minutes work). Used a waterproofed clam over the hole and filled it with 420 and plac...

Re: MacGregor 26 the boat for Me???
The Mac will be perfect for you and the family. For storing in the back yard I would suggest that you go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy one of those big silver covers. I got one for my :macm: that is 30' X 20' for about $80. Fits perfectly to keep the whole thing snug with some strategically placed ...

Re: Below Deck Fuel Tank
I agree with kmclemore, the only kind I would ever consider is a commercially available, tested, proven and approved type. And they come with deck fillers, vents, guage electronics and all approved hoses ready to fit too. Seems almost a no brainer when you apply some common sense and careful plannin...

Below Deck Fuel Tank
I have been through the mods page and can only see a few people who have installed below deck fuel tanks. This is on my mod list but I was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice on the tank construction and installation on a :macm: ... Seems there are 3 types basically Stainless Steel, Alu...

Re: Mercury Bigfoot 60 and the Captains seat
OK, then... maybe instead of postulaing on this issue on dry land, perhaps I can take Hardcrabs fix and test it out wet so to speak. May be the shot. As I said I just glued some compressed foam (white) under the seat to stop the transport rub and that seems to work just fine (and does not look out o...

Re: Mercury Bigfoot 60 and the Captains seat
Paul S... Yes there is a little "catching" when it is opened and closed which could be fixed in this way, BUT... The resting point and rub is directly under the middle of the Horizontal part of the seat seat (so directly on the front of the cowling), so trimming will have no impact (unless...

Mercury Bigfoot 60 and the Captains seat
Having recently acquired my near new 08 :macm: (and not as yet had a chance to get it in the water due to winter blues), I noticed that the captains seat will not fully close with the Merc Bigfoot 60 in the fully upright position by about 1 inch. In fact I now notice some very small rub marks where ...

Re: Cold Sauvi Blanc for the admiral
Wow... Some fantastic ideas here guys, thanks. I think I like the Solar Panel (was always on my list anyway) and the small freezer idea. Seems the most efficent use of space and allows for ice for the Rum and cool Sauvi Blanc and beer from the cooler with the blue blocks and... we could even bring a...

Cold Sauvi Blanc for the admiral
Have finally bought myself that Xmas present - an almost new 26M :macm: . It came with a bunch of gear never used (still in packets even) and mods galore. Very happy and can't wait to get her on the water, however have found myself already listing projects for her during the winter... One that has c...

Stopping!!!
Bob, Have read through some things here on STOPPING. Agree that comming into dock it's best to get the steel spinaker going and drop all sail, however when on the water I suggest a few other methods than just head to wind (unless you are trying to just drop sail). If you just head to wind the issue ...

All good stuff
Thanks to those who have replied so far. Agree that getting one at 70K+ in Aus V one from here at $30k - $40k landed from here makes a pretty difficult decision :?. My view on warranty... if I buy a boat that needs that on the hull I have bought the wrong boat from the wrong mass manufacturer anyway...

Taking a Mac to AUS
Hi all. Anyone out there that has bought a Mac in the US and had it shipped back to AUS? I am currently living in the US and will be returning later in the year. I am determined to get myself a Mac before I return, and want to have some idea of what kind of modifications are necessary (I am assuming...
