"High Seas" rescue with a Mac 26M
Over Labor Day Weekend, I sailed my 26M "Y.B.NORMAL" from the North end of Lake Winnebago (NE Wisconsin) to the South end and back. The winds, which clocked around over the 3 days, made the trip a nice downwind/reach sail in both directions. Because the lake is long (30 miles) and shallow ...

Re: Cleveland Boat Show.. very few sailboats
Highlander: Contact the vendor; if you tell them you saw them at the show, they'll sometimes extend you the show prices. It's worth a try. I was at the Chicago Strictly Sail Show two weeks ago. The attendee and vendor count were both down. My wife and I still had a great time looking at the new boat...

Re: Need advice on tow vehicle
When I purchased my used 26M, I had an Oldsmobile minivan. It towed it the 4 miles from my home to the nearest ramp, but I wouldn't go any distance with it ( we rented a buoy at the local harbor). This year we purchased a used Merc Mountaineer with a V-8 and class 3 hitch. I can't even tell it's beh...

Re: replacing a light with a fan
Another option is to use computer cooling fans. The downside is that you may have to build a bracket for them.
The upside is you can usually get them for free from a computer shop, they use very little power, yet they move a lot of air.

Re: Sailing Admirals, Better than a boat, A lucky mans morning
Its a deal, What about Green Bay and the protected waters of Door County? (an this is quickly spinning off to an events and venue thread I know), I am looking for some place to spend the 4th of July other than anchored at Navy Pier for the concerts and fireworks. Has to be within the wife's "a...

Re: Sailing Admirals, Better than a boat, A lucky mans morning
You should try sailing a Minifish with a Sunfish sail in 20+ winds on a reach. Grossly over-sailed and a riot when you get up and fly! Speaking of Sunfishes, my wife and I are members of a VERY EXCLUSIVE yacht club in northern Wisconsin. We have one regatta a year. We race Sunfishes exclusively. It'...

Re: Boat Tarp/Cover
I've used plastic tarps to cover my boats for years. I'm in northeast Wisconsin, where it's below zero and there's quite a bit of snow in the winter. I use 2 silver tarps: an older one on the top with a new one under it. I pad all of the wear points: tennis balls over the tops of the stantions and o...

Re: Water? Drain?
On my 2005 26M the combined sink/motor well drain on the port side kept clogging up. I just installed a dedicated 1" drain on the STB side of the transom for the motor well. I don't use the sink enough to worry about it at this point. Anyone else out in Mac-land having the same problem? BTW- th...

Re: Electrical Distribution (DC) Panel Questions
It's not the voltage, it's the amps that will kill you. Given the right (Wrong!) circumstances, a 12V battery can kill you if the amperage interrupts your heart. :( I remember back in the early 70s when Mercury came out with its 50,000V ignition system on its outboards. We had a mechanic who used a ...

Re: Electrical Distribution (DC) Panel Questions
I suggest that you put the VHF radio on a separate circuit breaker from the stereo and all other items. Coming from an aviation background, I've learned to keep "safety of flight" items switched separate from "normal use items".

Re: What is this?
While this looks like a useful tool for tightening the stays, I like the wrench Bill (Boats4sail) supplies with his boats.
It's an adjustable Vice Grip with 2 bolts through it. It provides great linear adjustment and locks in place for easier
insertion of the pin.
