Speaking of chutes

is there any reason why you couldn't use a spinnaker without a pole? One of the sails that came with our Venture 2-22 is a standard spinnaker. We've never used it due to the hassle of additional lines, the pole, etc. Cumbersome, especially on a 22 footer. So, would it be feasible to just fly it as g...

You might want to try

TrailerSailors.com

They have a MacGregor section that also has a lot of information for the V-2-22.

'76 222 here

We've owned First Step for about three years now. We live and sail in Michigan, so we're suffering through our typical long, cold winter.

Can't wait for sailing season.

My slug stopper is a quick wrap around the mast with a piece of electrical tape.

Works great! :D

Do I need a bus bar?

I am getting ready to replace the stock distribution panel on my Mac/Ven 222.

I will be using it for the cabin light, the mast light, and the nav lights (one dual at the bow, one white stern).

Do I need to use a bus bar or would I be alright without one?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

We have a V2-22 that we purchased late last season. We've been getting quite a bit more use out of her this season and have been enjoying it immensely. In fact, we just got back from our first trip to Lake Michigan which also included staying at a marina. A bunch of first for us and we had a ball!! ...

For you boat plumbing specialists

My Mac.Ven 222 has an interesting contraption under the cockpit that, perhaps, you can help me figure out what it is supposed to do. On the stern, below the water line almost to the bottom of the boat, is a thru hull. This thru hull is connected to a seacock (which is closed) and a 2" diameter ...

At this point in time (especially with the temps going down VERY quickly), this sounds like a great plan. We should be able to do the one-weeker, but one of our crew also starts school in mid/late August. Of course, this may be a moot point if they pass the bill requiring all Michigan schools to sta...

Lake Michigan

offers some absolutely fantastic cruising opportunities! You can get the "big ocean" feel but still always be within 30 miles or so of a great harbor. Whatever is decided, it'd be a lot of fun to meet up with other "Mac" sailors. Fair winds, Nick MacGregor Venture 222 "First...

Looking for info on Ven222 winches.

Does anyone have any info on the stock MacGregor winches and how to clean/regrease them?

Thanks in advance!

Stupid question time

Please bear with me... My Mac/Ven 22 had been modified to a cutter rig by an owner a guy a couple of owners back. Kinda unique, I guess. My question is this; unless I am using the smallest jib on the inner most forestay, I have a heckuva time tacking and have to run forward to help the sails (larger...

Well, we just got the boat a month or so ago. Before that, we had a Hobie Cat. However, I can say that we don't sail enough. Maybe once every two weeks or so. Life just kinda gets in the way. We have a SMALL lake nearby that I can use to drop the boat in the water when I get real twitchy and need to...

Winches how often

do you clean, regrease, etc., yours?

I just got my first boat and have heard a lot of different opinions. What say ye, Macgregor sailors?

Nope

the keel lock is only for the down position or to be used as a stopper if you're "swing keeling it".

Of course, this depends on assuming the boat hasn't been modified!

Well, I just got my motor back from the shop. Turns out the lower shaft was shot. The repairman got me set up with a new lower unit and completely checked her out for only $156.00!! From what I understand, this is a great price. We also succeeded in getting the boat home. We'd been storing her at my...
