Re: Mac 25 HUmming sound/ keel check

No offense to the OP but this made me laugh. The first day we took out our Venture 25 we had returned the week before from our lessons. The boat we'd learned to sail in was a 30' Catalina with a fixed keel. I knew there were differences in the Venture and Catalina, but when we hit nearly 6 knots cro...

Re: Ugly sticky contact glue

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been doing work on the inside of the boat and we've not had a chance to get out on the water yet this year. That's ok though. We're headed for Bahamas around October it seems. A friend of mine owns a Saber 28 at Abaco, needs some work done (putting in some gauges...

Darn...

I thought this was a thread about mead, not Mead! /chuckles

(I make mead, it's honey wine for those that don't know, and I usually carry some on the boat for the guests. hehe)

Sumner, do you still live in Utah?

And you're just traveling right now?

(Curious)

Ugly sticky contact glue

My boat - assuming I'm going to be keeping her for the next couple of years has this old blue carpet in the floor inside. I'm sure it was ok when it was installed, but it's worn, kind ugly and well... it gets wet occasionally and so that's not good for me, but conducive to mold or mildew. I dug arou...

Re: New onboard - Venture 25

Don, I am not holding out any sort of "hope" this moment that we'll catch the ketch. lol We've had over a half dozen boats come up, and turn out to not be as advertised. In this case, we have NO idea of the condition or anything of this boat. This was one of those friends who happened to k...

Re: Help Restoring Macgregor 25

That black mold, is that the black speckles all over the deck?

I get it ever year over the winter, not much I can do to stop it. HOWEVER, to get rid of it.... I found a bit of soap and a bit of bleach in a squirt bottle aimed at the offending areas, with a tiny bit of elbow grease works well.

Re: New onboard - Venture 25

Thought I'd drop a note here real quick. We've got a line on a 41' ketch. A friend is visiting that particular marina this week (it's out of the country) and he's going to look the boat over for me and send me pictures. Wife and I have had some discussions about "What If" stuff. Came up wi...

Re: Can I use slugs instead of bolt rope?

Slugs are definitely the way to go. Makes hoisting and reefing single handed much more doable. Be sure and order the proper "sail-stop" for your mast. The vendor will know the correct one. With out it, you will have a mess when reefing. http://www.sailrite.com/core/media/media.nl?id=2212&...

Re: Can I use slugs instead of bolt rope?

I think it is not so much a problem with me, as it is with the Admiral. We've saved and worked long and hard to "get away" next year. The 1100 bucks for new sails to her seems to be a "give in" proposition for me. Basically, it comes down to "do we keep sailing the trailer s...

Re: Can I use slugs instead of bolt rope?

Update. Two places wrote me back and told me the slugs will fit all the old ventures and indeed they've never had anyone say anything different. Still not sure I'm going to replace the sails yet. I need to but, we're likely only to keep the boat one more season and replacing them is a cost for this ...

Re: Can I use slugs instead of bolt rope?

Thanks, I guess that's what I needed to know :)

I'll give the company a call and ask them as someone suggested above, to send me one to test it - and then I'll look at buying the sails

Re: New onboard - Venture 25

Howdy all. Haven't posted again in some time except a question today. Thought I'd just give an update here. We're working on the house to put it up for sale in a while... I figure we're going to be here one more year, plus or minus.... retiring early for sure. Just trying to get the house empty of J...

Re: Can I use slugs instead of bolt rope?

I think perhaps I asked the question wrong. I'm more concerned with the actual mast slot being used for slugs. The two sites I looked over with decent prices on new sails said they came with slugs and the sails were specifically for the Mac venture. So I guess I'm worried about buying sails and find...
