Wow! This is a 14 year old thread!
Removing the bolt and fixing the hole is a judgement call. Leave it for now and go sailing! You might get some water splashing through when sailed hard.

Re: Venture 24 / Venture 25 parts cross compatibility
I would guess yes on the mast, maybe on the keel, and no on the cushions. I know that the boom on the 24 is much longer than on the 25. But I don't own either boat. You can probably get a definitive answer by posting your questions on the Venture 24 specific board: http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/...

The best source for information, pictures, and advice for the Venture of Newport 23 by far is the Venture 23 Yahoo forum at http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/venturenewport Take the time to browse through the many photo albums and then post your questions. Also see my google+ pictures at http://www....

Re: Keep loosing Bearing Buddy's
I lost one bearing buddy last year. It was a brand new unit on a brand new hub on a brand new axle. I didn't notice it was missing until several days after launching the boat for the season. I attributed it to backing the trailer in too close to the dock and wiping it off on a piling. Maybe not.

Re: New tow beast time
I was really nervous about this but it worked out great: I towed Chiquita all the way from Minneapolis to Lake Havasu for the HPCC with my 2012 Chrysler minivan. I had my wife and 3 kids along with all the luggage and paraphernalia needed to keep them (the kids) amused. I'm sure we were at or slight...

A Work of Art
My daughter's father-in-law, Art Brooker, surprised me last week with this 1:18 scale model of Chiquita that he had spent months working on. He carved it from a block of cedar using templates he made from the lines drawings. He is not a sailor and there are a few rigging details that aren't quite ri...

Re: New tow beast time
FWIW I had my V23 weighed just before launch last spring. She was rigged for day sailing, not cruising. No water, only 3 gallons of fuel, 6hp long shaft outboard. With trailer, she came in at just under 3500 lb. The original sales brochure says the boat weighs 2000 lb. That must have been without th...

Re: Keel Winch handle?
I don't see how you can adapt a sheet winch handle to work with the keel winch. The keel winch is a "brake" winch and the flat face of the handle becomes an integral part of the system that engages the clutch mechanism that allows the winch to "brake."

Re: Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention -Feb 9-18, 2013
This will be my first time. I'll be coming with my family and Chiquita from Minneapolis, weather, health, and gas prices permitting. I know of five other Macgregor Venture Newports planning on attending.

Re: Venture of Newport
Just one company. Roger Macgregor started Macgregor Yachts back in the mid sixties, starting with the Venture 21. All of the boats he made were called Ventures until about 1977 when he started calling them by the Macgregor name. So a V21 is essentially the same boat as an M21, a V23 Venture of Newpo...

That one is a Venture 24, a classic in its own right, but very different from the 23' Venture of Newport.

Re: hand swage standing rigging?
I may be wrong about this but are not aircraft cables made of the more flexible 7 X 7 or 7 X 19 wire rather than the stiffer 1 X 19 used for standing rigging? I believe the recommendations I have read say to use one sleeve for flexible wire and two for 1 X 19.

Re: MAC 23/24 mast?
Here is a site that has the sail dimensions of the various Venture/Macgregor boats. It can help to determine which sails can be exchanged with which boats: http://www.wadler.org/boat-mac/sailsXboat.php You can use smaller sails than called for but be careful if going bigger. You might run out of for...
