Your Opinion on Spinnakers

We purchased our '93 Mac 26S (our first boat) this spring and are considering getting a Spinnaker. Our current sail inventory includes main, jib, 150 genoa, & storm sails which we have yet to try. My wife and I are into day sailing and occasional weekend cruising on the Great Lakes with occasion...

Just bought my 26S in April of this year, with a little help from this board. It is my first boat and my wife and I love it so far. We have day sailed about 8-10 times in Michigan on Lake St. Claire, Lake Erie and Lake Huron. Two weeks ago we made a long trip up to the North Channel of Lake Huron fo...

Trailer tires: bias-belted vs. radials

I need new tires for the orginal Macgregor trailer that hauls my 1993 26S. The trailer has the original single axle set up. Would the bias-belted tires be better because they have stiffer sidewalls? Thanks all for sharing your experiences and knowledge!! It has been very helpful. This will be my first boat. I have done research and am creating a list of things to look for on the boat. I talked to the owner and, weather permitting :?: , we should be able to test sail at a nearby lake where there...

The asking price is $5,500 and stated to be in "excellent" condition. I hope it looks as good as it sounds!!! STeve If you have to travel any distance to see this boat, get pictures first. I traveled from Wisconsin to Kansas to look at a boat described in excellent condition and always sto...

Would you buy a used Macgregor without a test sail first?

In relation to an earlier post, I am planning on buying a '93 Macgregor 26s next weekend and may not be able to test sail the boat. I am a first time buyer, but have studied different info. on the web as far as what to look for when inspecting the boat. Is a test sail absolutely necessary? Although ...

Any Lakes Open yet In PA for a Test sail?

I am going to the Scranton, PA area next weekend to Buy a 26s. The only holdup at this point is that the owner says the lake where he has the boat doesn't open it's boat ramp until May. Anyone out there know of any lakes in the area that are "OPEN" for a quick test sail??? Thanks, Steve
