Re: Canyon Sailing Odyssey!
Very nice. I'm only 3-4 hours away, yet only splashed my :macx: on the Gorge for the first this last summer. Liked it so much, turned around and went back again for the next trip. The southern half is more spectacular with a lot of vertical development, but as you might guess makes the wind pretty s...

Re: Installing Nature's Head in a Mac X
Gazman, I replaced the hard/heavy door with a curtain made of sunbrella having several large vertical pleats. Matching magnets sewn into curtain and screwed inside the fiberglass fore and aft allow curtain to open from either side and auto latch coming or going (so as to speak). Much better. I'm on ...

Dave,
Great post. I too went with New Glass II on my 96X this year for the same reasons and with exactly the same results. Their service rep was very helpful and proud of their product . Time will tell.

Re: 3 Children, 1 Adult Dead After Boat Capsizes on Utah Lak
Bear Lake is indeed a a dangerous lake. Broad, long, shallow, almost no shelter other than running to the lee shore, and hypothermia is a risk all year long. All thunderstorms must be given due respect - I've had run-ins with them on land, sea, and air; don't like them much. One should never be fool...

Anyone know where to get those mods and what they might cost?
I know - if I have to ask, I can't afford them.

Starscream, if you think of the X under power as a barge and not as a speed boat you will feel better about about 25 MPH.

Re: Sold my 50, buying the Etec90
Starscream, if your RPM is accurate and you are close to sea level it sounds like you're Etec is running as advertised. My Etec 90 is configured as mastreb describes - networked to a Lowrance via the Etec's NMEA 2000 output. I spent this morning on a local lake (Strawberry) checking new plugs and a ...

I have found "Sailboat Electrics Simplified" by Don Casey (ISBN 0-07-036649-7) to be very helpful and reasonably priced.

Re: Sold my 50, buying the Etec90
My X has had the ETec 90 without the wedges for the last two seasons. I've shifted as much weight as I can forward, but the X still is asking for more down trim. Go with the wedges and let us know how it works out. I'm sure to add them later.

Re: Article on how to take on waves
vizwhiz, this is indeed a very good article. It is not always possible to avoid and season before last I found myself and 96X in the middle of the conditions described, at night, for about two hours as I fought my way to protected waters. I'm a novice solo sailor and reverted to power boat experienc...

Re: etec input needed
Yes the ETec 90 has a data port and engine time is stored. It requires a special cable and the software can be down loaded. Best bet is to find a local Evinrude dealer who will read the info for a few bucks. You will also want to know what oil the engine is set to use. I still love the etec 90 on my...

Lasik MonoVision and Sailing?
I've searched the archives and do not find any posts on this subject. I'm about to drop the hammer and treat myself to lasik. Due to age and other factors Lasik Monovision is a good option. Monovision sets the dominant eye to far and the other to near. The brain steps in adapts (usually) so near and...

Re: Solar vent placement
rccorder, An old gun smith adage is always cut the cheap part first. As the solar vents age they can get a little noisy so put as far as practical from your preferred sleeping location. Located anywhere on the deck including the slider is another tripping hazard and is prone to damage. Therefore put...
