Re: advice on selling my Achilles dinghy

Thank you socalmacer. Offer Up, I'll check it out. OBTW, I have done a little sailing in southern California, as well. Lived in San Diego in the 70's. Sailed a lightning and a couple of Sabots on Mission Bay. Tried to commute from Coronado to Point Loma Naval Training Center by kayak a couple of tim...

Re: advice on selling my Achilles dinghy

Thanks guys for the advice. Two things happened. First, I had some PRP injections in my knee and that has slowed me down in the short run, and, secondly, I think I will try to use my dinghy with the trailer I have for my O'Day Sprite and see if I can get some more use out of it for the time being. T...

Re: advice on selling my Achilles dinghy

Facebook and Craigslist are just private seller postings, so cash, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, etc. through your own account for payment. I actually wrote a personal check for our boat, which was accommodating of the seller. Best bet is meeting at a neutral, public location near a bank. The FastTrack is ...

Re: advice on selling my Achilles dinghy

I bought our 26X off facebook marketplace in October, which I'm not a member of, but which still comes up in google results. I found lots of boats on craigslist as well, including a full sailboatstogo rig for $100, but I didn't really need an additional one. I would try a craigslist ad. How does mo...

advice on selling my Achilles dinghy

Greetings fellow Mac sailors. I have been away from the forum for a couple of months. Holidays, traveling, and physical therapy have distracted me. I'm 80 years old and have three sailboats---26X, O'Day Sprite, and my Achilles LT-4 with sailing kit, plus a 2 h.p. Honda and an electric trolling motor...

Re: New Macgregor owners wake up on their new project boat

Hi Tuxonpup! Congratulations and Welcome! As others have already mentioned the aft ballast gate is a basic RV waste gate. You can generally take them apart and replace the seals if you have a mind to… but for about the same cost you can replace the entire valve with a nice clean new one…There are e...

Re: New Macgregor owners wake up on their new project boat

tuxonpup remarked: "I was kinda going by BWY's recommendation on using a sail sock for protection from both UV and damage while trailering, but I looked at a boat with Sunbrella covering the final wrap on their furled jib and it certainly makes things simple." I would think that the decisi...

Re: New Macgregor owners wake up on their new project boat

Enjoyed your video. Welcome aboard the community. I have a '98 26X which I keep in a marina near my home in Orlando, FL. Sounds like you have a plan. I have sailed on Lake Powell near where you launched in my inflatable dinghy with a sail kit. That was back in 2011, though. We have stayed at the RV ...

Re: Comfort onboard

I like the concept of the bean bag chair. Could you place it in many locations on the Mac 26? Maybe at the bow, cabin top or around the area of the cockpit? Where else? Could it be offered with a carabiner so if you want to attach it to your personal flotation device you could float with your bean ...

Re: Comfort onboard

I am, as often the case, a "day late and a dollar short." But we have enjoyed this bean bag chair from West Marine. I got it for the Admiral when she is a passenger in the dinghy.

Re: Milton Mac 26 tie down techniques?

Yes, let me add my congrats on a good job securing your boat. Mine did well at its slip in the marina in Sanford. I did take my boom and mainsail below and secured the Bimini in the down position, of course. Kept the ballast tank full. Mooring lines doubled up. I think she took 85 mph gusts on the b...

Re: trailer tire not holding pressure

Thank you for the kind words and thoughts. Did get up to my boat today. Pleased with the hardiness of our MacGregors. Had two inches of bilge water. Still trying to find that leak. I'll probably start a new thread on leak investigation and analysis next week. Got to bail out what I do have first. :P...

Re: trailer tire not holding pressure

Glad to hear you are well and that your boat appears to be too. Man, looks nasty on the news Appreciate your good thoughts. My admiral and I did do well thought this. No damage to boat, property, or travel trailer or injury to ourselves; family from St. Pete that evacuated to our home in Orlando wi...

Re: trailer tire not holding pressure

Hi Herschel! Hope you and the other MacGregor forum members in the upcoming Milton storm path are all battened down, secured, hauled out and evacuated (as appropriate). Milton looks to be a substantial storm with a hard fast punch. I don’t believe in “omens” but Florida sure has been having a rough...

And this is what they will look like after the storm if you leave that little tail hanging out.
Eagle eye. :P You caught my jib tail exposed a tad. Hope my twist ties make up for my lubber like oversight!
