Re: Hey Guys! Is this a great idea or what??

Putting chlorine pucks in the ballast is excellent for not only odour control but of more benefit to control the invasive species, (zebra mussels up here), and help prevent transfer to different bodies of water which our boats could be one of the worst offenders with the ballast tanks. Word of cauti...

Has anyone cruised the Saguenay River Quebec?

Thinking of doing a run up the beautiful Saguenay fjord this summer and sail around the mouth at the St. Lawrence with the whales.

Anyone have any local knowledge or tips? (Quebec1?)

Much appreciated...Jim

Re: Where do I put this thing?

Yes Boat...snowing here again tonight, cold as a witches left breast. Should be fine at 18 - 20", just clip the spin halyard to the slot for the mast trailering pin, pull it tight and lock it down when not in use. Makes for a great forestry backup in the event of failure for extra security or t...

Re: Sailtimer wind vane & rotating mast...

Hey 1st Sail...have seen the potentiometer solutions but like we've said, quite expensive. If you were to put together a full system with traditional equipment you'll be forking out close to 10% of the value of the whole boat. Unless you were racing or doing long distance cruising it's a chunk. Good...

Re: Where do I put this thing?

Agree with 18"...had installed one at 12" orginally and things got tangled up when furling sometimes.

I would ask Highlander as I believe he has 4 of these installed up there somehow... :?

Re: Sailtimer wind vane & rotating mast...

1st Sail...sounds good, see what you've got going. As an update also I have been working with the manufacturer and they are working on installing a rotation compensation feature into the app. They wan't to know approximately how much rotation the mast actually does each way. Like I say my boat's in ...

Re: Sailtimer wind vane & rotating mast...

1st Sail...believe we're on the same page. Tee plate mounted on a bearing looking something like this: http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy180/lieudaze/image_zpsf781fe59.jpg Then rigged to the end of the spreaders...you could also tie the front of the plate to the upper shroud bracket, (instead of ...

Re: Sailtimer wind vane & rotating mast...

Hey Chris...the trimaran is a Dragonfly. There's a few threads on here about it but it's worth a You Tube look, very cool, very fast and trailerable rocket. Not much interior space inside but by the looks like quite a ride. Still waiting for one of the mod lunatics here to rig a Mac with the same. 1...

Re: Sailtimer wind vane & rotating mast...

I knew "not opening up a can" on this forum is always a stretch but as usual great input from you guys. Meant to try it for years myself but if locking the mast means a 15% or better loss in performance then the idea is obviously out. Agree mastreb...I've been using the easiest method for ...

Sailtimer wind vane & rotating mast...

Haven't been on for a bit and sorry I missed the group at the Toronto Boat show this weekend, try and get it together next year for sure. I was there today with the intent of checking out the Sailtimer wireless / solar wind vane which looks like a great product to hook up with the iPad...until I rem...

Re: Interesting point re: sailing speed

Seen many posts on the subject but short form of what I understand.... True displacement hulls, full keel standard sloop, have a terminal hull speed of 1.34 times the square root of the length of the waterline. If your Mac had a displacement hull it's terminal hull speed would be 1.34 x sq rt (23.16...

Macgregor takes on a Volvo Open 70 in Galway

Anyone who followed the Volvo Ocean race this year can tell you it was fantastic. I didn't realize until the final race in Galway that someone in a Macgregor had entered as well? The whole video is great to watch but slide over to 1h 17min and 45 secs and you can see the brave Mac sailor trying to c...

Re: custom steering Blue Water Yachts

I'd rate it as one of the top quick and dirty mods done to the boat so far...engine weight off the steering while sailing makes it very relaxing and no more hard overs if you let go of the wheel like before. In fact now you can find the wheel's happy spot and I've let it run without touching it for ...

Tried the freezer bag and it does work great...do you anticipate any issue with it holding too much heat in?

The IPad seems to generate quit a bit....

Re: Man Overboard!

If you remember the unfortunate story of the poor girl who had to be rescued in Honduras when her father was murdered back in Dec/10...a rescue ship arrived but it was too shallow and wavey for it to get near so she had to motor it of the bay to meet them. The first thing that got me right away was ...
