Re: Enlarge Windows
I chickened out and left them alone. If I ever sell the boat, the next owner might be concerned about hull integrity, so just easier to leave it. I installed the new windows yesterday though. I also got an unkind comment about the appearance of my boat (what are sisters for?), so I guess I need to f...

Re: Picture Contest
The photoshop picture is definitely worth framing! If I had an M I would probably frame it myself!

Re: New Mac 26s Owner 1990 (Wow)
You didn't buy that Mac26s for $1800, YOU STOLE IT!!! Congratulations. I have the 26D. If the fiddle block was attached to the seating area near the companionway hatch, then it would be for the main sheet.

Re: Enlarge Windows
FYI- I gave up waiting and called Bill at Macgregor, only to my disappointment that he is no longer there. However, the gentleman I spoke with (I'm horrible with names but grateful for the assistance) told me that if fastened properly the windows would provide as much support as the missing fibergla...

Re: rivets versus screws in mast/boom
I used aluminum rivets on my mast to hold on a fitting for the boom vang. They pulled out at a bad time. Still I use aluminum rivets for lots of other things that don't have 400lbs pulling on them. Rivets would be my first choice unless the thing will be under a lot of stress, otherwise, machine scr...

Good Sailing Club around Los Angeles
Can anybody recommend one? I'm in my 40's and hoping to find some moderately active folks. Thank you!

Re: two harbors, Catalina
I might be interested, what is it? Could be a good sea trial for my new to me Mac 26D. Are you planning on sailing over or motoring? I'll understand if your answer is "yes".

Enlarge Windows
I have a 26D. Has anyone enlarged the tiny window openings? If so, How much bigger did you make them, and how long ago? Any stress cracks? I'm thinking about opening them up an inch or so top and bottom. FYI-I made slightly bigger windows from plexiglass, and had a great time removing the lovely fac...

Rudder Mod VS Racing Rules
Hi Folks,
I was planning to mod my rudder (26d), but also plan to start racing. Will I be in for trouble? I suppose I could keep the factory rudder and build a new one for non racing.
Who knows whether the rules would prohibit the mod, and are they enforced?
Thank you,

Re: New to forum/Macs/sailing - have a couple questions
The factory wiring on these Macs was very simple. Basically lamp cord run through the bilge. Look on Defender.com for your bow light, they'll have the best price too. Actually I think I found you one for $16.

Re: 26S pre-purchase keel/hull inspection
I bought an 82 Mac that was in a slip and discovered thousands of blisters on the hull when I pulled it out. This is not fun to deal with! Having them removed professionally will cost several thousand dollars. Doing it yourself-you're looking at a few hundred and hours of grinding/sanding fiberglass...

Re: Weighted Keel- AND Water Ballast???
I guess it's a SF Bay (heavy wind) thing, that I don't get. If I were to add weight, even to the keel of my boat, and expect better performance, I would want to remove more weight from somewhere else. This is why my first goal with a weighted keel would be to allow me to run my X or D without water ...

Weighted Rudders???
What do you think? This would be for performance. I'm not talking about 500 pounds here. I know the steering is fragile, but even with the dual rudders this idea makes a little sense to me. Maybe 50 pound bulbs at the bottom. You could make them removeable. I'm sure you'd have to reinforce the rudde...
