Re: Can of worms; overpowering a Mac
Hi all, I have watched this thread develop with interest and would like to pitch in. I own a Macgregor with a 90HP fourstroke, the engine brand is unimportant because everyone has the best brand. IMHO, a 90 HP is absolutely perfect for this boat in terms of power, speed, economy and performance I ha...

Salvage aid mod feasibility
Hi all, Silly question time regarding a salvage aid modification (god forbid). I have been thinking of trying to fit a hose connection adapter somewhere in the ballast tank just in case I ever get knocked down on my side without ballast. To do this I would use a fish tape to pull the connector from ...

Re: knocked down 3 times
Hi, I am both curious and a little worried that your boat was knocked over without raised sails , do you think this would have happened without the tarp and how much of a factor did the tarp play a part in the knock down? The reason I ask is that I like many, power around at a sensible speed with no...

Re: 2010 Macgregor 26M cost details
Hi Again,
I found that sticking with the smaller private dealers gave me a better deal as their overheads were not as high. Jim was great for that

2010 Macgregor 26M with 90 HP Fourstroke
Hi, I recently bought a Macgregor and had a 90 HP fourstroke fitted. IMHO opinion I this this combination is perfect. There is power, speed, fuel economy and reserve for whatever you need. I have heard doubts expressed on this and other forums about performance issues of 50 HP motors in situations o...

Re: Some physics based and hypothetical questions
Hi, Thanks for the reply and diagram. I fully accept and agree that stupidity, fast turns in rough seas, sailing with full sails in gales etc is a recipe for disaster and that goes without saying however, I am interested in wheather the boat will fall over in calm sheltered conditions either whilst...

Re: Some physics based and hypothetical questions
When motoring with no ballast be careful; if the daggerboard is down you might heel way over during a turn if you're going too fast. I've sailed my M many times with no ballast but it really doesn't seem to be any faster. When motoring with no ballast, or having no ballast in rough seas, I'd avoid ...

Some physics based and hypothetical questions
Hi, This question is mainly aimed at engineers and those with a good knowledge of physics and design but anyone else with experience in this situation please chip in. I am waiting delivery of My Macgregor from the factory in 3 weeks, but despite years of reading the great points about this boat, I s...

Re: Beam Sea Techniques
Hi, I was always taught (Navy) to zig zag across the wave in that situation if that course was absolutely unavoidable. Keep the sea either on the port/stbd bow then port/stbd stern quarter at around 45 ish degrees depending on wave size. Slow down to a reasonable speed but not so much as to lose goo...

Re: New Honda 90 four stroke fuel consumption and performance
Hi G, Hi J Thanks for your reply You're welcome How do you find your 75 with regards to fuel consumption and ease of push? She's great all around. With all that torque, she pushes the M around with ease. I have water skied behind her and taken many tubing with a big 3 person tube many times. As far...

Re: Using genoa as a jib?
Hi All, Thanks again for the insight and various opinions all of which have been noted. I think I will stick to the genoa that is on offer as it is in with the deal I got and because a jib will be cheaper than a genoa to buy in the future if needed. I have also opted for a new Honda 90 four stroke b...

Re: New Honda 90 four stroke fuel consumption and performance
I have not seen anyone post with a Honda 90 on the back. All of the 90 installs I have seen are either Etec 90's or TLDI 90's I think you have made an excellent choice though. Should be a sweet engine. I have a Merc 75 4s. It is big and heavier than a 50 for sure. But with almost double the cc's sh...

New Honda 90 four stroke fuel consumption and performance
Hi, After reading many posts on this forum I have decided to fit a new Honda 90 four stroke 90DK0LRTC to My Macgregor which I get delivered in August. Does anyone else have this engine on a Macgregor and what kind of performance and fuel economy I can expect. I am not a speed freak and I am more int...

Re: Using genoa as a jib?
Not knowing your sailing conditions, I love the genoa on our X. We generally sail in fairly light air, 6-12 knots and have only furled it once when the wind picked up in the 20 knot range. We enjoy the way the boat sails in light to moderate air with a light chop using only the genoa (seems to porp...

Re: Using genoa as a jib?
Hi All, Thanks for the replies. The reason I asked is that the genoa is more expensive and is coming in with the price as the dealer said that the genoa is a better sail and if I get the jib I would want to replace it in a few months for the genoa. However, upon researching the genoa, I have found t...
