Re: Would You Buy Old or Buy New?

I bought a used x and then resold it. I looked around until I found the right deal and got one for about 17k. I resold it after using it for a year and making some modifcations to improve the interior look and usefullness. I resold for 21k and so lets say I broke even after using the boat for a year...

Re: New Owner introduction on Ghost lake Alberta

Hi Andrew You might meet a fellow by the name of Blake on Ghost Lake - He bought my 26x this spring and he plans to sail there. I am in Chilliwack and boatless at present, but will be looking soon as I have some time to actually use a boat again. I am currently heading down for the spill in the gulf...

Re: Buying a used Mac

I like the x layout better with the head close to the cockpit - bigger cockpit and galley fixed in position. If you buy an x that has some good mods and equipment you will most likely get more for your money. The other thing is you can buy an x and resell it for pretty much what you paid in the futu...

Re: Anchoring: too much scope?

I have always used between 7:1 and 4:1, depending on the wind and weather. The other thing to consider on the ocean is the tidal range which makes a big difference how deep you anchor in the first place and how much rode you allow. You need to allow for the change in dept due to the tide which can e...

Re: Problems w/outboards

I am interested in what the problem may be with a 15 hp honda 4 stroke on an 26x - Iniation problem was with starting - Battery was in good condition and the motor would turn over then on the next attempt to crank the solenoid would click , but it would not turn over - there did not seem to be any r...

Re: UK east coast tides

British Cloumbia has some interesting tidal rapids you will notice it says sailboats should carefully time their passage on the first link http://www.bigpacific.com/whattodo/parks/skookumchuck.html The second link is to a utube video of a tug and barge, I am thinking he misjudged when slack tide was...

Re: Question about prices people are paying for used boats

I just sold a 1998 x for $19,000 in Canada. I know of a 26m 2008 for sale by a dealer for $34,500. the price the delaer lists for a new 26m is $21,950 - Which when you add roller furling, enclosure, dept sounder, gps, shore power, extra batteries, porta potie, anchor and rode, boarding ladder, stove...

Re: Your 26M as a business (deductable?)

I currently do taxes for a living in Canada - If you want to deduct the boat - you need to have a business that does chartering - then you have a business that is set up supposedly to " have a reasonable expectation of profit", if you don't make a profit then the rulings that have come out...

Re: Your 26M as a business (deductable?)

Hi Mike I am interested I have a 1998x that I bought a year ago, when looking for it I went to the Local dealer to see if they had anything used. They didn't seem to have much interest in helping me out so I located the boat myself. I made a good deal and now have this one listed for sale. The going...
