Re: Going to look at a Venture 22

Thanks Guys. Next boat will be something 26-27' with standing headroom. Oday 272 and S2 8.0 are top contenders right now. I'll probably keep her another season or two though unless a hull of a deal comes along.

Re: Going to look at a Venture 22

Ran across this old thread in an image search. Lots has happened in the last 5-6 years and 6-7 thousand dollars. Lots of daysails, a few overnight and weekend adventures, and a baby. She's been a great boat, but I now long for something longer. I'll probably have her another year or two before I can...

Re: NEED HELP PLEASE !!! -- Louisville KY area

There is a ton of sailing on the river in Louisville. Find the websites and facebook pages. They have races every weekend and every Wednesday night as I'm sure you are (should be) aware. You should easily be able to find someone to crew for and start learning. I'm an hour and a half west in Owensbor...

Re: Name That Part!

This post just made me realize I'm going to have to relocate my windex when I put my vhf (amateur) antenna on soon.

I'd bet the black thing is a hookup to charge batteries from motor, or supply power for electric start, or both.

Re: Retractable Keel Fiberglassing

I know it's late, but better than never. Consider yourself lucky, If you have a '78 you have a later model 22 that just has an iron keel, earlier models had a fiberglass encapsulated iron keel that would delaminate and cause problems. You just need to give it a good cleaning and apply a proper paint...

It's a masthead rig. No furler. I'll try and get some pics up.

Re: Whisker Pole Rigging

Thanks for all the replies. The pole came with an eye to attach to the mast, but it's plastic and I'd rather put holes in the mast for something I know will last. I bought a 3/8" stainless lift eye to replace the nut to the bolt that holds the gooseneck to the mast. From the replies you guys po...

Whisker Pole Rigging

Anyone running a Whisker Pole for their genoa? I got a pole as an x-mas gift. I'm not sure what additional rigging I'll need to use it effectively. A lot of images and videos online are for 30'-40' boats with pole tracks, uphauls, downhauls, and generlly more complex setups that I'd like to avoid. I...

Re: More questions from a new 222 owner!

1. That is normal for the keel to be protruding from the bottom of the hull when up, it should be even with the hull line. By beaching I assume you mean leaving on the beach during low tide. I'm an inland sailor so this is foreign to me. If I beached my boat it would not be wet again for 9+ months. ...

Re: MOTOR SIZE

Right, my boat did perform well with the 4 horse that came with it though. I'm just not sure the $800 I spent on new motor/heavier mount/prop and extra fuel consumption was worth it. I got a 4 blade 9.25x8 for my 9.9, did not meet expectations. Had more thrust in reverse with the john boat prop that...

cookingwithgas made a nice one. There should be a thread on it somewhere, and I think there is a youtube video.

Re: MOTOR SIZE

4hp is all that's needed to get max hull speed, according to an online calculator I used.

I have a 9.9 on mine now, got it thinking I could get more speed and have more torque for fighting wind, especially in reverse.
Haven't found the right prop to get any more real power out of it yet.

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades

My fully rigged 22 doesn't take any longer, by myself. If you have enough wind to run slow downwind, you have enough wind to run fast upwind. I can only assume you have some very low bridges and that's why you have two different "setups". In any case, no offense intended. I hope you get th...

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades

You might not want to rob anything from it yet. You might like actually sailing a properly rigged boat, since it appears you haven't done any real sailing yet. :)
