Re: MacGregor Sailing Accident - Safety Reminder
I’d care to strongly Disagree with the following statement: A problem with the 26X is that if the ballast is out, you can't fill the tanks when the wind and waves are rocking the boat. At that point it's too late. That’s just WRONG as I’ve filled my ballast several times when the weather has been u...

Re: Bear Hunt 1st YouTube Video
Do they have a drone that can crash in saltwater and not be ruined? Ix That kind of thing exists, but it's expensive. The DJI Mavic Mini was $400 CDN at Costco, and we just land it on the dodger. You can't actually reach out and grab it as its hovering as it will automatically avoid your hand, keep...

Re: Just wanted to share
One of my favorite sailing destinations is Moreton island off Moreton Bay in Queensland, for those not familiar with my home area you can click here for a Google map location. https://maps.app.goo.gl/aZrGgpQWoEDAHJWD8 Looks awesome. Changed my mind about visiting when I tried to look it up and foun...

Re: Bear Hunt 1st YouTube Video
Looks great! What are you using to film w the drone? It must be fast to keep up with the :macm: The drone has to be even faster cuz it's an :macx: :D DJI Mavic Mini from Costco, and it only kept up because we're full ballast in that video. :D The top speed of the drone is just about the same as the...

Nice! When do we get to see you wake surfing? 8) hahaha this youtube thing is EASY...here you go. Not wake-boarding, more like proof of concept with a paddle-board before buying a wakeboard. I love the way my wife cracks up when he falls: I could listen to that video 1000 times :D https://www.youtu...

Re: MacGregor Sailing Accident - Safety Reminder
100% it's a late-model 26X. Mast up. Motor down. Rudders and centerboard were almost certainly up, although waves and gravity and flotation mean that there's a small chance that their positions all moved from what's in the video. Tragic. Sad that someone had to lose their life. I strongly suspect th...

Re: Any downside with going to the optional larger, 5/32" headstay.
Is this what you used? https://shop.bwyachts.com/product-p/3453-1v0.htm How far above the original one did you place yours to keep the new stay parallel to the original forestay? How did you attach it to the pulpit? Yes, that's the exact mast hound that I used. I can measure it tonight, but it was ...

Re: Any downside with going to the optional larger, 5/32" headstay.
Good question... i bought my X used and never removed my forestay from furler to inspect it completely. I decided when I upgraded to go w the thicker rigging as its one of the few single points of failure that could quickly injure people in the cockpit. Turns out my original forestay was in perfect...

Re: "Sub $600 Autopilot" Progress
Agreed. I refuse to put one of those donuts on my wheel. Your system seems superior. I'm sad I didn't get in on it. I really want an AP When the donut is combined with a steering knob like this one, there's zero negative effects from the donut. Once you install the knob, that's all you'll use when ...

Re: Boat smell
Once mold and mildew has set in, it's hard to get the smell out, even with ventilation. One option that has worked for me is to use an ozone generator. You can get cheap chinese ones on Amazon, or more expensive quality ones from industrial supply outlets, depending on your preference. I use an Amaz...

Re: Fuel water separator recommendation
I found an excellent use for the second supply connection. I added a second primer pump and length of fuel hose, which will be coiled and hung up close to the filter. It makes for a very easy refill of the Honda 2.3 kicker motor, yes, but even better was the end-of season drain-out of the main tanks...

Re: Fuel Line Broken
Agree, no doubt. I also once purchased fuel hose from Amazon and it was a disaster, leading to a long engine-less sail home. I also bought a fuel valve off of Amazon that I had to return because of $#iTTY quality. Lesson learned: no fuel accessories from Amazon, period. Buy a quality product like th...

Re: How well do MacGregors sail compared to other 22-27 ft keelboats?
I absolutely destroyed a Tanzer 24 in an unofficial race today (overtook him from a quarter mile behind). He wasn't the best sail handler tho, it was obviously a rookie. Must be embarrassing to be passed by a coastal trailersailor that everyone says can't sail. Wind started out at 10 knots on the do...

Re: 26 Plimsoll-Load Lines
I don't think that the line is a plimsol line, I think it's a boot stripe for cosmetic purposes. It breaks up the huge slab sides of the boat visually. A plimsol line is used in commercial shipping to indicate the waterline at max load conditions, and it actually has multiple locations, depending on...
