Re: Motoring with just the rudders?
I routinely sail/motor with the rudders and dagger board down and motor locked in placed. I have not experienced any issues with control or getting in and out of my slip. I slip at a deep lake, so only environmental control challenges are sometimes I have significant cross winds. However, I seem to ...

Re: 2002X steel trailer fender removal
Suggestion for removing old rusty bolts presented in my Ford Model A club. Heat the nut/bolt and then immediately touch the base of the nut and bolt with a coating of paraffin or candle-wax. The heat will suck the paraffin/wax into the threads and make the bolt/nut easier to separate. You can attemp...

Lake Mead, Nevada is down 100 feet! and falling. Lowest it has been since filled in 1942. Pray for snow in the western Rockies. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt Your prayers have been answered, Colorado Rockies have an abundance of snow this year. Great for the mountain skiing, but not so good f...

Re: New Member need info on bottom painting and prep
Not an expert here...but my first concern would be that those dimples are blisters and should not be covered with a barrier coat. I would suggest you do a form search for blisters. When I first purchased my :macm: I cleaned the bottom of crud and found clusters of little dimples in certain areas. Co...

Re: 2005 26M Daggerboard Trunk
The dagger board trunk is smaller at the bottom. Here is a response by Mike Inmon on a similar inquiry.

Yes, the trunk is smaller at the bottom than top. Fits much tighter. Made that way.

Re: It's Official, You're Stuck With Me Now
Niceaft makes a good point about getting your wife lessons. I went basically from zero sailing experience to the Mac 26 M and it does involve a challenging, and continuous, learning curve Beware, in my humble and relatively inexperienced opinion the MAC does heal quickly. I've had my Mac about 5 yea...

Re: The new Tattoo
Peg and I are visiting my son and his family in Seattle area. Fortunately, we were here when BWY had its open house for the new Tatoo and we arranged a sailing lesson. Our good fortune continued when we got our lesson on the new Tattoo and we even got sun and beautiful blue skies on our sail yesterd...

Re: sail battens
I purchased some from BWY a couple of weeks ago. Those ones on EBAY look a bit pricey to me. Don't remember BWY's exact price but they were just a few bucks, cheap enough that I ordered two to have a spare. The spare is setting at our weekend home. I am going up there this afternoon, so if you don't...

Re: Engine "Pee"
I'll second the recommendation to check the pee tube for obstructions first. It will only take a few minutes. I have a Honda 50 and had an excellent pee stream when I purchased it, but shortly after the pee steam became less after start up. Since I did not know the engine history I purchased a repai...

Re: Furling Jib Cover?
I installed a furling jib cover this year. I had not noticed any significant wear or damage on my 2 year old jib but I slip my boat all summer at 9000 ft, so it gets a lot of UV. Also, I was concerned about demasting stories on this site and thought it wise to install a jib cover halyard to use as a...

Re: BF50 Winterizing - does it need antifreeze?
TK,
I have a 04 BF50 and do the same winterizing procedure as Quebec1. Unhook gas line and run in a barrel of water (or use muffs)until it stops then simply place engine in vertical position anf let drain. It gets cold here in Denver area, but no problems so far.

Re: Bunk carpet
Interesting...West Marine website had the same carpet for $35.00. Also checked Wholesale Marine and it was around $30.00. I'm not knowledgeable of carpet grades or quality factors, but I'm sure if you have this knowlege you could find a similar quality at a less generic price. At any rate got mine n...

Re: Bunk carpet
Russ, I replaced the carpet on my bunks with a cheap outdoor carpet a couple of years ago and it has not held up well (already needs replaced). I just wrapped the carpet on the bunks and as previously suggested useing stapes on the sides of the bunks. No problem with the wrap but the carpet has just...
