Re: Backstay

When I bought my :macx: I ran into the same problem.. The PO had never stepped the mast in 5 years and did not understand the short backstay either...Digging thru the gear box I came accross what looked like 2 boom vangs :? and the light bulb finally lit.....duh, one must be the backstay adjuster an...

Re: Great Memorial Day Sailing...until the mast came down

I agree with welding it!! any good welding shop could weld it up and put a doubler on the inside..redrill and done in about an hour or less....I had a pretty good tear in mine from not using the baby stays and letting the mast get away while raising it. I did the weld and reinforce in about 45min......

Re: 1999x questions

Can't help with the manual, but the bilge questions answer is a sponge and bucket!!! there is no bilge pump or drain..There are at least 3 different areas to soak up,,,,under the cooler box, under the sink or battery box and under the rear berth cushions there are some cover plates where you should ...

Re: Composting Head, roller furling and roller main worth it?

IMHO the roller furling genny is the most important add-on you can get!!!!!!!!!! No need to go forward on a pitching deck to set sail....I purchased a porti-potty with a pump out tube on it and plumbed it in myself, it took only about an hour and almost every marina I visit the pump outs are free an...

Re: MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ETEC

34 degree day I decided to try something that I read in my owners manual about only needing 1/2 rev to fire the engine. I popped the cover wrapped a half turn of a 1/4 in line on the fly wheel, turned on the key and gave a yank..To my surprise it actually started and ran perfect!!!! it had not been ...

Re: Best outboard and Size

I have the Etec 60 and love it..don't get the great top speeds of the larger motors (18 MPH) but the fuel economy on our cruises is really great,,2000 rpm 6kts .4 -.5 gph and LEAKS' is heavily loaded with fridge, 3 batteries, solar panels, honda genset, arch and dinghy on davits off the arch. Also h...

Re: Decisions, decisions... Which motor and why?

I repowered my 2001 :macx: removing a nissan 50 and installed an etec 60...lots of power, better, less fuel consumption, better, no carbs to drip when tilting the motor, better, and it has a winterizing mode that is extremely easy to complete for winter storage, best,....no choke just turn the key an...

Re: Bowed axle on steel trailer.

as a general rule all 5 hole axles are rated at 3500#, 6 hole are rated at 5k and 8 hole are 7k...that is what the Washington State Patrol look for when they see an obviously overloaded trailer. those are gross wt numbers not what you can load on the trailer... lightly loaded X & Ms are barely l...
