26 M Trailer Conversion

Been a short while since I last posted, but been a little busy. Mac Mac is due for a new trailer, and I have a lead on a new M trailer. I know that M to X trailer conversion has been discussed before, but my skills with the search function don't seem up to the task. Can anyone be kind enough to poin...

Re: Import Mac from USA

GFC?? The point is that a LOT, let me repeat, a LOT of people have imported used Macs. Only a very few have imported for personal use. Most do it for profit. Consequence is that the market is a bit saturated, and boats don't exactly shift when economic confidence is low. Save yourself a lot of heart...

Re: Need advice on tow vehicle

Hi Keith, Got a Nissan X-Trail Diesel last October. It weighs a bit more than the Mac, so that's a plus. It is rated at 2 tonne, so ticks that box as well. They have a Renault turbo diesel of 2 litres, which sounds small, but with the Manual transmission, it puts out 127kw. It has an auto 4x4 option...

Re: An Uncomfortable Subject

Thanks for the replies folks. Have been off-line for a while - bloody work - so apologies for not responding sooner. Might give the aftermarket supplier another go.

An Uncomfortable Subject

My boat cushions! MacMac is now 14 years old and the interior seat cushions (not the matresses) are as dead as dead. The foam is exhausted, and the fabric is worn. They look bad and feel bad. I will get some foam from Clark Rubber and try to get someone local to make the cushions, but I just know th...

Re: Sydney Boat Show

Well I'm going from Canberra, but on Sunday. Have decided to take the kids with me so that the Finance Director has a day off.

They have not been to Sydney, funny enough, so have decided to make a day of it with a ride on the Manly Ferry, ice cream on The Corso and all that.

Hoping for good weather.

Re: Racing Option 3

I voted no because the issue is racing. I can think of nothing more ridiculous than a gaggle of Macs gybing their way down the course at 4 knots. I put a square kite on Mac Mac because it oprovides more options off the wind. As I don't have the cruising kite, I would be interested in knowing how the...

Re: New at Loading Boat on Trailer

I still power on, though am much more aware of avoiding high revs at the base of the ramp. Here's what works for me: Trailer in the water so that the top of the guards are just under. This leaves the front bunk just out the water (the brakes). Approach with CB half down, and one rudder. I hold the r...

Re: Check your tyres (tires)

I reckon this should have stayed in the original place, since it is to do with the OEM spec tyres. It is really interesting that there is so much debate on things such as dual axle trailers for safety, when the fitting of a good set of tyres will make so much difference to the safety of the towing p...

Re: Another Boat ramp mishap.

The boat looks brand new. Wonder if they were towing it home after purchase? It is a big one alright. Looks like the bow probably finishes in line with the front of the windscreen, and with the front of the keel hard up against the back of the car, that would be what 3 metres? So if the front of the...

Re: Racing Rules Options

Hi Brian, I know that I haven't been contributing to this debate as I ought to, but unfortunately the pressures on one's time do not seem to be easing as the days pass. I note with interest that most are opting for non-weighted centreboards. Does everyone know that the M has about 100kgs of permanen...

Re: power sailing

Motoring from Pittwater to Lake Mac would probably be possible with a kind sea state. Consumption and cruising speed are the issues. With no ballast and WOT you get between 12 - 16 knots on most Macs fitted with 50hp motors. The consumption is very high though (particularly with the 2 strokes). Easi...

Re: Australian Macgregor Racing Rules

For the reasns mentioned above, and a thousand more bsides, I just can't see there being a way to establish a set of 'one-design' type rules. In fact I would go further and suggest that it should be declared a mixed class, with handicaps sorted out according to formulas used in mixed yacht racing. T...
