I bought a brake winch for my M25 keel at Blue Water Yachts for twice as much as the Northern Tool winch. It looks the same but it's silver though (galvanized) so I got some bling for the money. I had to put a couple of bends in the handle to clear the companionway.

We bought an '83 M25 this winter and its electrics have the same problem as yours. They need a total rebuild. The nav lights work, but nothing else.

I've heard of people who attach one end of jumper cables to their shrouds and throw the other end overboard.
